00:00Flights from Leeds Bradford Airport could be grounded over Christmas as workers prepare for
00:05strike action. Nearly 50 members of Unite are set to strike over the next two months in a dispute
00:11over pay. Swissport ramp agents have voted to take 16 days of industrial action from the 19th of
00:17December through to the 4th of January. They've claimed their employer refused to make additional
00:21de-icing payments that Swissport employees at other airports receive. The workers taking action
00:27are mainly employed on the airport's Ryanair flights, which could be impacted. According to
00:32Unite, the workers perform vital tasks at the airport, including moving aircraft,
00:37baggage handling and operating specialised vehicles. During cold weather, they also
00:41undertake additional de-icing duties to ensure aircraft are safe to use. Leeds Bradford Airport
00:47told the York Shooting Post that it remains committed to working closely with its business
00:51partners to minimise any potential disruption, and Swissport say discussions with unions have
00:56been productive and will continue.
