"We built this tank from scratch. It's like the second-biggest underwater tank in the UK."
From constructing an abandoned city to trudging through the depths – a glimpse behind the scenes of what it took to bring Silo's breathtaking practical underwater sequences to life. Silo Season 2 is now streaming on Apple TV+ https://apple.co/_Silo
Silo is the story of the last ten thousand people on earth, their mile-deep home protecting them from the toxic and deadly world outside. However, no one knows when or why the silo was built and those who try to find out face fatal consequences. Ferguson stars as Juliette, an engineer who seeks answers about a loved one’s murder and tumbles onto a mystery that goes far deeper than she could have ever imagined, leading her to discover that if the lies don’t kill you, the truth will.
In addition to Ferguson, Silo season two stars new addition Steve Zahn, alongside returning stars Tim Robbins, Common, Harriet Walter, Chinaza Uche, Avi Nash, Alexandria Riley, Shane McRae, Remmie Milner, Clare Perkins, Billy Postlethwaite, Rick Gomez, Caitlin Zoz, Tanya Moodie and Iain Glen.

00:00I am enjoying it. I dive a lot, when I can.
00:10Now we're going to get into clothes that hopefully aren't too wet.
00:14I'll see you later.
00:16We built a set about 15 feet underwater and we're having some fun today.
00:21We built this tank from scratch. It's like the second biggest underwater tank in the UK.
00:26We've just made it for this production.
00:28This is actually our first scenes with Rebecca as well.
00:31Is there anything that you do particularly different to prepare for underwater work?
00:35I stretch. I do a lot of just kind of warming up joints because you move differently in water
00:41and I easily can get neck cramps.
00:43The diving, it's mind power because even if you're comfortable in water, there's so much going on.
00:49So one of the most important things is sort of a quick, calming, meditative state.
00:54Rex is going to go in the water now.
00:57So once you go in, you're just one with it. You kind of have to be a part of the environment.
01:03You're rolling and three, two, one and action, Rex.
01:10The set is so cool.
01:12It's an entire environment of corridors and what would have been left if people just evacuated,
01:19sort of Chernobyl kind of thing.
01:21Just a thumbs up in your set, please.
01:24We have the communication device, so we hear the voice of God.
01:27So it's mapping out a scene whilst you're underwater.
01:30It's just a camera, right? Level with camera.
01:34Yes, that's it. And we catch your eyes a lot more than when you come back to that point.
01:39How long can she stay down there before you have to anchor up?
01:42Four hours a day over the whole day on compressed gas.
01:46But obviously that's split up quite a lot throughout the day.
01:49She probably does about 15 to 20 minutes at a time whilst we're doing each scene
01:53and then we pull her up for air brakes.
01:55I'm breathing through a very different tube and sometimes it's too much.
01:58But I know that if I have any issues, he's there to save me.
02:01I'll try and take the diving out so you just concentrate on what you do.
02:06Pete takes diving out of acting.
02:09Julia, she's not a swimmer, right?
02:11No. I mean, people within the silo, they have no idea what water en masse is.
02:17So it's also a matter of trying to not know as a swimmer how to move your legs and feet.
02:23But the weight belts are making me able to walk on the ground.
02:27Just one note for Rex, let's look up at the window earlier, please.
02:31I'm submerged in the environment that I love.
02:34Thank you. Let's cut there. Let's cut there.
02:38I mean, what I like is, it's just fun.
