00:00To find out what the Office of the Civil Defense is up to regarding the eruption of Vulcan Canlaon,
00:06we will talk to OCD Region 6 Director Raul Hernandez on the phone line.
00:12Good afternoon, Director Hernandez. This is Princess and Alan Francisco of Balitang Pambansak.
00:20Good afternoon, Princess and Sir Alan and all the viewers of your program, Balitang Pambansak.
00:29Director Hernandez, how is the action we are taking regarding what is happening in your area
00:35so that it will be far away from our countrymen who were affected by the eruption of Vulcan Canlaon?
00:42What is our update on the assessment in your area?
00:46So now, we are continuing to assess. Actually, we are assisting our LGOs,
00:55especially Castiliana, who was hit by the eruption of Vulcan Canlaon.
01:03We have many evacuees here. Right now, Secretary Gatsalian is also here.
01:11We are also assessing the situation of our evacuees here.
01:18Under the instruction of Secretary Chudoro,
01:21we are forming a task force of Vulcan Canlaon and inter-agency coordinating cell
01:30to be effective and efficient in our response to the eruption of Vulcan Canlaon.
01:37Director, the residents in the six-kilometer danger zone,
01:42have all the precautions that they should consider been taken care of?
01:49Yes. Actually, we have evacuated the majority of our countrymen who are inside the six-kilometer danger zone.
01:59There are only a few remaining because we are still lacking an evacuation center.
02:07So now, our focus is on how we can evacuate our countrymen who are still inside the six-kilometer danger zone.
02:16What about the other residents who are still not evacuating or do not want to evacuate?
02:21What should we talk to them about?
02:24There is an ash fall happening right now in your area.
02:29So now, we are continuing to talk to them so that it is for their own good.
02:34We are also talking to them so that other lives will not be affected
02:39because our responders will not stop until they see our countrymen being evacuated.
02:49So if they do not leave, the lives of other people will be put in danger,
02:55especially our responders.
02:59Regarding the six-kilometer danger zone, how prepared is the OCD for this?
03:12Right now, we are not prepared.
03:14If the six-kilometer danger zone expands,
03:22we already have initial plans for that.
03:26We already have people who are willing to adopt evacuees from affected areas.
03:33For example, Himamaylan is willing to adopt evacuees.
03:40So we just need to prepare how we can sustain the needs of our evacuees.
03:51Right now, do you have enough assets to help the affected residents in your area?
03:59Yes. Right now, we still have enough.
04:01We still have enough food and non-food items.
04:08But if it continues for a long time, our resources might be depleted.
04:12So that is what our central office is planning right now,
04:17our national office, on how we can meet the needs for a long time.
04:24Thank you very much, Director Hernandez.
04:26Maybe this is just a message for our countrymen.
04:31Yes, to our countrymen, especially those who are still inside,
04:36who were affected by the eruption of Mt. Calaon,
04:42we are talking to you, we are just cooperating.
04:45We are just listening to the advice, reminders and orders
04:50of our superiors.
04:53If we need to evacuate, we will evacuate.
04:56Our government is ready to meet your needs.
05:01Thank you very much, Director Hernandez of OCD Region 6.
