00:00The Department of Justice, or DOJ, has warned the public about the rise in online scams during the holiday season.
00:07DOJ Spokesperson Assistant Secretary Mico Flavano reported an increase in victims of schemes like identity theft,
00:15where scammers pose as personalities offering free gifts, but ask for shipping fees, then disappear once payments are made.
00:24The DOJ advises caution and reminds the public not to trust unknown individuals online.
00:32Within the last few months, more than 100 people have been victimized by this type of scam.
00:37So we are hoping that with this type of message, we spread awareness that there are methods of scamming that are evolving.
