00:00In the province of Ilocosur, they have a tradition that will never be forgotten during Christmas.
00:09This is the Tinubong, a type of sweet rice that is cooked inside a bamboo.
00:16This is a traditional tradition of the Ilocanos, which is mass.
00:22And one of the people who sells this is Rex and Elizabeth's husband.
00:26When our children were young, we made a business of selling this sweet rice.
00:35Because this sweet rice seems to be forgotten by most people.
00:41Because that day, this Tinubong was just cooked and made by our ancestors during Christmas.
00:53Because of the hard work and determination of the couple, their business slowly grew.
00:59But unlike Tinubong, their partnership is not always sweet.
01:04Like others, they also went through hardships.
01:10Rex and Elizabeth were high school sweethearts.
01:13So when I first saw her, I fell in love with her.
01:19The love at first sight that they were talking about, that's where our friendship started.
01:25I really courted her until she answered me.
01:28She was patient courting me because she has been courting me for a long time.
01:33She was patient and waited for me.
01:37She answered me with a sweet yes.
01:43They have been together for a long time until they distanced themselves from each other.
01:48That's why their love ended.
01:52But they said, if it's for you, it's for you.
01:56Because a few years passed, the former lover came back.
02:03After I got a contract abroad, I talked to her.
02:08If possible, she will go home so that we can settle down in our marriage life.
02:16They had four children.
02:19She was the inspiration for their husband in their business.
02:23Tinubong is a big part of their love story.
02:28When we got back, I would give her Tinubong during Christmas.
02:36So Rex and Elizabeth, please share it with us.
02:40In cooking Tinubong, you will need Galapong, sugar, coconut milk, coconut, coconut milk, cheese, and butter.
02:54Mix it well and transfer it to a pot or pan.
03:00Cover it with a lid and cook in low heat for 15 to 20 minutes.
03:05After a few minutes, the Tinubong is cooked.
03:10Wonders, this is the finished product of Tinubong that the Filipinos made.
03:16We can open it by tapping it like this.
03:23In a hard object, especially in cement, when it cracks, we open it like this.
03:30This is how we open it.
03:32Like this.
03:34This is the rice.
03:40It's really delicious.
03:41The texture is really good.
03:44It really tastes like rice.
03:49It's really good.
03:50You should come back here in Ilocos.
03:53It's a must!
03:55But did you know, Wonders, that not only in cooking, they use bamboo.
04:00It can also be decorated at home.
04:03And because it is a symbol of love and unity of their family,
04:08their Christmas tree this Christmas is made of bamboo.
04:24With friends and family, there is happiness.
04:29Christmas is sweet when it's complete.
04:32I wonder,
04:35Merry Christmas!
04:39The love will come true.
04:41It will return to where it should be.
04:43Because for Rex and Elizabeth, love is sweeter the second time around.
04:48And you should feel it not only during Christmas, but all year round.
04:53Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
04:58Love!
05:22Merry Christmas!
