00:00We will get an update on the situation of several towns around Mt. Canlaon.

00:04We will talk on the phone with Mayor Jose Chubasco Bachu Cardenas of Canlaon City, Negros Oriental.

00:11Good evening, Mayor.

00:13Good evening, sir, and good evening to all who are watching on TV5.

00:20Yes, Mayor. How is the situation in your area?

00:25Okay, at around 3.03 in the afternoon, we are here in the town of Canlaon.

00:32We heard a strong thunderstorm.

00:35And when we looked at the volcano Canlaon,

00:39we saw the Raymond point of view of the ash ball.

00:45But looking at the P-bolts, it is being heightened.

00:51The alert level is being heightened from alert level 2 to alert level 3.

00:56Which means that from volcanic unrest, it is now on magmatic unrest.

01:02So in the magmatic unrest, the pyroplastics that they call ash falls are included.

01:11So as of now, our directive is that the residents situated on the 6km danger zone are being evacuated.

01:23And as of now, we have more than 100 individuals coming from Barangay Masulog, Sitio, Mananawin,

01:35who have evacuated just now.

01:39And as of now, our evacuations are still ongoing.

01:43Hopefully, it will not affect that barangay because the ash fall or pyroplastics are going to the town of La Carlota and Bago.

02:04Those are the indications that we are seeing right now because of the wind that is going to them.

02:11Mayor, you mentioned the wind or the ash that is being blown by the volcano.

02:17Please explain what you felt in your area when this volcano erupted.

02:23Did the ash fall reach and how was the environment?

02:28When the volcano erupted in my office, I felt the wind and the force of the eruption.

02:38I thought it was the eruption of a canyon that is close to us.

02:44Because we have a mindset that when we hear an eruption, we need to check the volcano immediately because it is still on unrest.

02:56When we checked, we saw the huge smoke.

03:01So we put our siren on.

03:05Our vehicles were prepositioned to pick up the people who reside at the foot of Mt. Canlaon

03:16because the four barangays are at the foot of Mt. Canlaon.

03:24So we prioritized the nearby areas and they were hit by the ash fall and pyroplastic small parts.

03:36So we evacuated them immediately.

03:38As of now, it's ongoing.

03:40But here in proper Canlaon City, Barangay Mabigo, what we call the center of the city of Canlaon,

03:48we haven't seen or felt any ash falls.

03:55We are still normal here.

03:57But I advised that all classes are cancelled, both private and public.

04:05Also, the jobs of the employees are also cancelled.

04:11But I am re-activating our ICS to manage the situation of the eruption of Mt. Canlaon.

04:21All right. Mayor, we just want to ask how is your coordination with PHIVOLS?

04:25What is the latest update from PHIVOLS regarding the incident of the volcano?

04:31Yes. PHIVOLS, through Mr. Bacolkol, we have a daily update on them.

04:39It's still on alert level 2 and at any time, at any rate, the alert can be heightened.

04:49That's why we are not loosening our preparations.

04:57So every day, we have an update from PHIVOLS.

05:01Okay. You mentioned earlier that more than 100 individuals were evacuated.

05:06How is your supply to your evacuation centers?

06:12Mayor, a message to our countrymen affected by the eruption of Vulcan Canlaon.

06:17Perhaps a word of assurance that our local government is ready for this incident.

06:24First of all, my message to the relatives of the people of Canlaon who are watching on TV,

06:31stay calm.

06:33As of now, your relatives are well taken care of.

06:39Especially your relatives who are at the foot of Mount Canlaon.

06:45Second, our resources here, as of now, are still sufficient.

06:51With regards to foods and non-foods, it is still sufficient.

06:55The public need not to worry.

06:58But we are advising them to be resilient.

07:02They also need to be alert to our announcements and postings

07:10so that our government will not have a hard time evacuating if necessary.

07:18Again, I am continuously calling on the religious sector

07:23to continue praying that the eruption of Vulcan Canlaon will not continue

07:30because no matter what our preparations are, if it really explodes, we will have nothing to do.

07:36So prayers are really important.

07:39I urge everyone, no matter what religion we are,

07:43let us pray that the eruption of Vulcan Canlaon will not continue.
