00:00Oh, the tangled webs the royals weave. Who says you can't go home? Well, your grandpa,
00:06at least when he's the king. There's no question that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's kids,
00:11Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are paying the price for the ongoing royal feud.
00:15Archie and Lilibet don't really have a close relationship with their relatives,
00:18which is partly due to distance. The children don't travel to the United Kingdom, where much
00:23of their extended family resides, and King Charles III is reportedly not super thrilled about this.
00:28However, the reason why the Sussex kids never travel across the pond may actually be mostly
00:33the fault of Charles himself, despite his alleged support for the family.
00:37I want also to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives
00:45overseas." Harry and Meghan first moved to California in 2020. Frogmore Cottage,
00:50one of the royal family's residences in the UK, was still technically theirs until 2023,
00:55when Charles evicted the couple from the residence. According to The Sun,
00:59the royals told Harry that the house was no longer his just a day after his memoir,
01:03Spare, was released. To add insult to injury, it was reported that Queen Camilla,
01:08along with William and Catherine, Prince and Princess of Wales, were in full support of
01:12this decision. The decision might have been a result of the controversial content of Harry's
01:16memoir, but the family had to know how much more difficult it would be for Harry and Meghan to
01:19bring their children to the UK without their own place to stay.
01:23Not many people have asked if I'm okay."
01:25Regarding Archie and Lilibet, a source told Us Weekly,
01:28"...if the King wanted to see them so badly, he could make it easier to do so."
01:32The source said of Charles' relationship with the kids,
01:34"...it's left a massive hole in his heart that he's only spent a few fleeting days
01:38with them and then video calls on important days."
01:40Charles reportedly finds this extra upsetting,
01:43considering his close relationship with Will and Catherine's children.
01:46It is, however, Charles' choices that have caused the Sussexes to have no residence in
01:50the United Kingdom. According to documents filed in April 2024, Harry officially changed his country
01:56of residence from the UK to the U.S. Notably, he listed June 29, 2023 as the day he changed
02:02residences. Royal commentator Esther Krakow told Sky News Australia,
02:06"...it's very interesting that Prince Harry chose to date his official U.S. residency
02:10on the day he was kicked out of Frogmore Cottage. I think he was trying to send a message,
02:13and that it represents everything that could have been and is not and has been lost.
02:17Potentially it represents what actually should never have been."
02:20Royal author Tom Quinn told The Mirror that, even if they weren't working royals,
02:24Harry and Meghan imagined Frogmore would always be there for them even if they came back to the
02:28UK for just a few weeks each year. In case the royals needed to get one more jab in against
02:32the Sussexes, Frogmore Cottage will reportedly now be rented out. But lacking a place to stay
02:38in the United Kingdom isn't the only reason Archie and Lilibet don't visit their extended family.
02:42The royals took something else from Harry and Meghan that makes them uncomfortable
02:45bringing their kids — security. Quinn told The Mirror,
02:48"...Meghan has said she's only prepared to return to England if she and Harry have a
02:52place of their own and the security they both feel is essential."
02:55Should these issues be dealt with? Quinn says,
02:57"...they will certainly want to bring their children to the UK. But it's going to take
03:01a lot of diplomacy to get to the point where Archie and Lily are able to develop a genuine
03:05and warm relationship with their cousins." Upon leaving the UK in 2020, Harry's security
03:10was downgraded. Royal correspondent Cameron Walker told The Mirror,
03:13"...he doesn't feel his family is safe when they are in the UK,
03:16because they do not have police protection officers with the Metropolitan Police with him.
03:20He can't guarantee their safety."
03:21Since Archie and Lilibet's safety is a top priority for Harry and Meghan,
03:25inadequate security surely affects their desire to visit Harry's family. Consequently,
03:29if the feud could be put aside, all roadblocks could be cleared for a long-overdue royal family
03:34reunion.
