00:00It is time for a change y'all. I'm tired of being tired, of being tired, of being tired.
00:06I am sick of being tired. No matter where your zip code is, no matter what school you
00:11sign up to, every single child deserves to have the same quality education.
00:16Bye honey. Have a good day, okay? I will. I'll see you in a little while. See you in a little while.
00:25Good morning. Good morning. Okay.
00:35My work in Oakland really began when I realized that there were 5,000 primarily African American
00:42mothers on the waiting list. I wasn't ready to stop working. I wasn't ready to give up
00:47my housing, you know, but it was things that I had to do for the stability and security
00:54of the child.
00:57Are you a registered Alameda County voter? Yes. Would you sign a petition for the health
01:07and child care initiative for Alameda County? Xavier, we overslept.
01:21When we build from the grassroots up, when we include seniors, when we include monolingual
01:25Spanish speakers, when we include everybody from the community to come and campaign and
01:30fight for justice for our children, then that's how we win.
01:39This work takes a toll on you. You know, I'd been having problems last week with migraines
01:45and my body was hurting and I didn't know what was going on, but I missed my doctor's
01:50appointment for a meeting.
01:53This is an economic justice issue just as much as it is an educational issue. We have
01:59to start talking about gender and racial justice and economic justice and connecting
02:03these dots because we're going to roll these policies back.
02:08No matter what happens, like I have to just, I have to keep going. So, and that's just
02:13kind of my life.
02:14Having watched families suffer for the last five years and then to finally be on the edge
02:21of some justice for all of these moms.
