00:00Al-Khawrama is a 46,000 square meter memorial site created to honor the UAE's brave heroes.
00:11The name means Oasis of Dignity, and it's a cultural landmark that reflects the UAE's
00:15pride in the sacrifices made by its heroes. The memorial consists of 31 panels, each leaning
00:20on the other in an expression of strength, mutual support and solidarity, reflecting
00:24the unbreakable bond between the UAE's leadership, its people and those who have sacrificed their
00:28lives for the country.
00:30Wahhat al-Khawrama also includes the Pavilion of Honor, which contains the names of each
00:33of the UAE's heroes since the time of the country's unification in 1971. Each hero's
00:38name is displayed on an illuminated panel made from aluminum reclaimed from armed forces
00:42vehicles. At the center of the pavilion are seven massive glass panels representing the
00:46seven emirates. On each is written the Armed Forces Pledge of Allegiance.
00:50Artfully situated throughout the memorial are engraved poems written by the late Sheikh
00:54Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan, founding father of the UAE, and along the supportive spine
00:59is written the Pledge of Allegiance of the UAE's Armed Forces.
01:02The national landmark is intended to unite the people of the UAE in gratitude for the
01:05heroes who have honored the UAE, and tells the heroic tales of those who have given their
01:09lives for the country. The site also hopes to inspire future generations of young Emiratis
01:13to adhere to their country's national values.
01:16Wahhat al-Khawrama is symbolically located between the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and
01:20the General Headquarters of the UAE Armed Forces, and is open to the public 24 hours
