00:00The final day of Fashion Forward Dubai Season 8 ended in a celebration on Sunday, and all
00:09the stops were pulled out as fun and light-hearted vibes were showcased on the catwalk.
00:14The evolution and growth of Dubai's Fashion Forward is hard to deny as the events continue
00:18to be a huge draw for the region's hugely talented design culture.
00:22We're very pleased with the outcome and feedback of Season 8, we've showcased, we're nearly
00:29completed in showcasing over 30 designers, a big leap from when we started four years
00:35ago.
00:36I remember we had 18 designers and I think that's a testament to the growth of the fashion
00:41industry.
00:44It's very clear that the taste levels for designers are just improving every season.
00:49The attendance has been very encouraging as well, there's just a strong vibe that's happening,
00:54there's a dynamic movement that's going on in Dubai and we're just very pleased with that.
00:59Starch Foundation, the Lebanese platform for emerging designers, were seriously represented
01:03this year featuring three labels, Salim Azam's Serene Collection, Labnan Mahfouz's 70's Inspired
01:10Set, and Red Hot designer Timi Hayek, who took us to Scotland with her Earthy Collection.
01:15Basically I went to Scotland, to the Highlands, last year and I just loved it there, the raw
01:24rugged landscape, and that basically inspired this collection, so it's very raw, the materials
01:33are very rugged, tough linens, but with a silvery gold touch, and the whole image is
01:42like a girl, her face is flushed and there's a lot of wind, but yeah, she's in that landscape.
01:51Omani designer Amal Al-Raisi celebrated her country's role in the ancient silk route with
01:55her Feminine Western Wear Collection.
01:57The collection is inspired by silk route, the ancient silk route, where old ships used
02:04to come out from China and go to Europe, passing different stations, and Oman, my country,
02:09was one of the main stations where they used to take the Omani frankincense, which is known
02:14for being the best in the world.
02:17So this whole collection is inspired by the Omani frankincense, and the silk route, and
02:24the importance of Omani in that journey.
02:26So the prints of the collection I have collaborated with an international print designer, where
02:32we created these two different prints for the collection, and they're taken, they're
02:40totally inspired by old drawings for Oman, some old China wear, and we mix things together
02:47to come up with these prints that were used in the fabric and the carpet in the show.
02:53The second to last show featured Deema Ayad, a fashion forward regular who took this opportunity
02:57to celebrate women with her romantic collection featuring soft drapey fabrics in subdued colours,
03:02which she artfully displayed on a mixture of models and regular women.
03:05Colours-wise, I wanted something subdued next year, I wanted a modern romance, so the whole
03:10theme was modern romance, so a take of soft pinks, undertones of blues, blacks and whites
03:15like I always love, and I combined all of that to create this.
03:18So, I don't know, this is the real me, I think.
03:21And finally it was time for the most anticipated show of the event, as Filipino designer Fern
03:25One with his label Amato took to the catwalk with his usual huge display of fashion meets
03:31Dubbed the Dancing Sun and inspired by a Catholic event called the Miracle of the Sun, the religious
03:36symbolism was hard to miss as models walked out wearing veils typically worn by nuns.
03:41The catwalk was strewn with sand and cactus, giving it a western feel.
03:44The clothes however were signature Amato, feminine, flowy and intricately embroidered.
03:50The collection is all about the miracle that happened in Portugal, and it also happened
03:59in my hometown, which I experienced, it's the Dancing Sun, that's the title of the collection.
04:07I used a lot of lace, French lace, tulle and linen, and the colour, it's more on dusty,
04:16dusty pastels.
04:18As another season of Dubai's Fashion Forward comes to a close, it's clear that the event
04:21and those who contribute and attend have collaborated to put an emphatic stamp on Dubai's red-hot
04:26design scene.
