00:00the Bears might be making a significant addition to their roster before training camp kicks off.
00:05That's right, folks. According to the latest odds from BetOnline, the Bears are among the
00:09top teams favored to sign veteran cornerback Stefan Gilmore if he doesn't stick with the
00:14Dallas Cowboys next season. Currently, the Jacksonville Jaguars lead the odds,
00:18but our Bears are right behind them. For those who might not know,
00:23Stefan Gilmore is no ordinary player. He's a five-time Pro Bowler and was the NFL Defensive
00:29Player of the Year back in 2019. Even though he's 33 and considered past his prime,
00:34Gilmore showed he's still got plenty of game left in him last season with the Cowboys,
00:39starting all 17 games, snagging two interceptions, and breaking up 13 passes.
00:44Why Gilmore? Why now? The Bears already have solid starters at cornerback,
00:49with Jalen Johnson and Tariq Stephenson on the perimeter and Kyler Gordon in the slot. However,
00:54adding a player of Gilmore's caliber could provide invaluable experience and depth,
00:59since only Johnson and backup Greg Stroman Jr. have more than two seasons under their
01:04belts in the NFL. Now, here's the million-dollar question. Literally. Gilmore just wrapped up a
01:08two-year, $23 million deal, and his market value is still high, around $9 million per year,
01:15according to SpotRak. With less than $4 million in cap space projected after signing their draft
01:20picks, the Bears would have to work some serious financial magic to bring Gilmore on board.
