00:11Airports in the UAE are adopting a wait-and-watch position on the outbreak of the Ebola virus
00:15in West African countries as no travel restrictions or screening protocols are in place so far.
00:21Concerns regarding the global spread of Ebola via air travel began when Liberian-American
00:26Patrick Sawyer died of the virus in Lagos on July 25. But the World Health Organization
00:31says the risk of a traveler contracting the virus during a visit to affected areas is
00:36extremely low.
00:37Israel said it would unilaterally hold fire in most of the Gaza Strip today to facilitate
00:42the entry of humanitarian aid. The lull will also allow Palestinians to pull dead bodies
00:47out of the rubble of bombed homes and bury their loved ones.
00:50The Israeli announcement was met with suspicion from Hamas and followed unusually strong censure
00:54from Washington at the Israeli shelling on Sunday of a UN-run shelter that killed 10
00:59people.
01:01Radical militants seized control of three towns in northern Iraq yesterday after fierce
01:05battles with Kurdish security forces, sending thousands of people fleeing to nearby mountains
01:10and threatening the country's largest dam.
01:13Here in the UAE, shares of Aldar Properties fell 3.18% to 3.65 dirhams on the Abu Dhabi
01:19Securities Exchange on Sunday following the release of the company's quarterly results.
01:24Abu Dhabi's largest real estate company reported a net profit of 506 million dirhams for the
01:29second quarter. That's up 168% from the previous year. The second quarter profits don't include
01:36the over 1 billion dirhams cash assets gained from last year's merger with Surul Real Estate.
01:42The Broadway show Beauty and the Beast will celebrate its 20th anniversary with performances
01:46in Abu Dhabi's Yas Island in October and November. The Tony award-winning show, which
01:51ran on Broadway for 13 years, is based on the Disney animated film and will stop in
01:56the UAE capital as part of an international tour. Tickets go on sale for the public from
02:01August 6.
02:02And later in the year, Abu Dhabi's Corniche will play host to BBC's Blue Planet in concert,
02:07a show that will open the three-week celebrations for the Abu Dhabi stopover of the 2014-15
02:13Volvo Ocean Race on December 12. The show features high-definition footage from the
02:18BBC series The Blue Planet, with music by a 78-piece orchestra.
02:23And finally, the weather today. Highs across the UAE will be 40 degrees Celsius, dropping
02:27to 33 tonight.
