The holidays can be a busy time with so much to prep for shopping, decorating, and, of course, gift-giving. According to new data, 81%* of people believe that presentation matters most when giving a gift. Scotch Brand gift-wrapping expert Amber Kemp-Gerstel stopped by to share wrapping, packing, and shipping tips and tricks. Well, you know that face you make when you're handed a bagged or unwrapped gift that feels like it was an afterthought, or even worse--a last-minute regift? Everyone knows it--but it hasn't had a name...until now. Scotch Brand is establishing this phenomenon called Resting Gift Face (RGF) and demonstrating how hand-wrapped and packed gifts with Scotch Brand is the only way to combat RGF this holiday season. Here are three top tips to do so. First, have the right tools on hand, especially Scotch Gift-Wrap Tape . It's perfect for smooth, seamless wrapping and helps provide a nearly flawless finish, even if you are a beginner wrapper. Next, choose a theme. Having specific wrapping paper for the occasion is not only cohesive but shows that you put thought into the presentation of your gifts. Lastly, always make sure to measure the wrapping paper before you cut it based on the height and width of the present. This will help prevent wrapping paper waste. If you're still feeling overwhelmed, remember not to put too much pressure on yourself and remember the reason for the season. Sometimes, the simplest final touches on a gift can make all the difference. Seeing a recipient open a gift that has carefully placed bows, some sparkles, or a shipping box that has confetti makes the effort all worthwhile. When sending gifts to loved ones who live further away, securely pack each item inside sturdy shipping boxes. Try sealing shipping boxes with just one strip of Scotch Heavy Duty Packaging Tape . It has the ultimate strength to ensure boxes stay sealed through transit and the gift inside arrives safely. As for bulky or oddly shaped items such as a ball, use Scotch Gift-Wrap Tape to secure the folds as you gather the paper around the ball. Then, you can always tape a big bow there to easily disguise any mistakes. Another tricky item to wrap can be soft, squishy items like stuffed animals or pillows. Try using Scotch Gift-Wrap Tape to secure any loose edges and gather the top with a ribbon to give it a polished finish, showing that even the toughest shapes and sizes deserve a thoughtful touch. If wrapping in a hurry, use Scotch Gift-Wrap Tape to secure the edges and make it look seamless. To hide wrapping slip-ups, use a festive and unique bow like a honeycomb paper embellishment or a hand-cut snowflake. Not only does it hide any little imperfections, but it also adds an extra pop of holiday cheer, making your gift look even more exciting and festive. 00:00Hey there, I'm Amber Kemp Kristel, a gift wrapping expert here with Scotch Brand to
00:10give you some tips on how to make this gift wrapping season a success.
00:14Now you know that face that you make when you receive a gift that may not be so thoughtfully
00:18wrapped?
00:19It's maybe thrown into a gift bag or even worse, a last minute re-gift?
00:22Well until now that face has not had a name, but Scotch Brand has given it one and we're
00:25calling it Resting Gift Face.
00:27It's that face you make where you're like, oh, I wish this was a little prettier.
00:31Well this season we're going to combat Resting Gift Face with hand-wrapped gifts that show
00:35that we are thoughtful and intentional and effortful about how a gift is presented.
00:39And that doesn't mean it needs to be perfect and I have some tips that I think will get
00:43you started.
00:44Tip number one, I definitely recommend getting all of your supplies out and ready to go.
00:49So you're going to need scissors, gift wrap, and of course some tape.
00:52And I highly recommend Scotch gift wrap tape because it's going to melt seamlessly into
00:56that gift wrap and it creates a nearly flawless finish, which is perfect for beginners who
01:01may not feel so confident about their gift wrapping skills.
01:04It's going to make it look as professional as it possibly can.
01:07Second, think of a theme.
01:09Maybe it's a color palette or some images that you want to have on all of your wrapping
01:12paper.
01:13It's going to make it look like it was a cohesive, well thought out plan for all of your gift
01:16wrapping.
01:17And last up, when you're wrapping those gifts, make sure you cut your paper down to size
01:22before you start wrapping.
01:24This way you can take any off cuts and reuse them for wrapping other gifts and you don't
01:28end up with so many jagged edges, which can happen when you just start with one giant
01:32piece of paper.
01:33For those oddly shaped items that will inevitably come across this holiday season while we're
01:37gift wrapping, here's my biggest tip.
01:39Don't try to wrap it too tightly.
01:41Make it more loose fitting, give it some room to breathe and make it almost like a gift
01:44bag out of wrapping paper.
01:46It's going to look more polished than an actual gift bag, but you're going to use that Scotch
01:50gift wrap tape to seal up any edges.
01:52And if it's imperfect, that's okay.
01:53Just use a little more tape and put on an extra bow, an extra tag, and it makes it even
01:57more of a conversation piece when the gift's a little bit quirky.
02:00This holiday season, there's a good chance we're going to be giving gifts to people that
02:03we won't see in person, which means we're going to need to ship them.
02:06But I've got some tips on how to make that presentation really, really good.
02:10Start with a sturdy shipping box and then once you put your gift inside, seal up that
02:14box with just one strip of Scotch heavy duty packaging tape.
02:17That's all you need.
02:18It's the ultimate strength in ensuring that your gift gets to its destination without
02:21any issues.
02:23You can also use that same tape to add any embellishments to the box, like a snowflake
02:27or some cutout stars, and it really gives that wow factor so that when it shows up to
02:30the doorstep, they know that there's a thoughtful gift inside.
