A visit to the Riding for the Disabled Association of Dubai
Transcript
00:00It's just another day of horsing around with the Riding for the Disabled Association of
00:13Dubai.
00:14The volunteers and employees work daily from October to April to help disabled children
00:19receive an active and therapeutic experience on horses.
00:23In operation for nearly 16 years, Riding for the Disabled has 10 stables, 10 horses and
00:29around 55 dedicated volunteers who commit to weekly hours helping 50 children with disabilities.
00:36In a class we have four children per class and four horses, one instructor and one assistant.
00:43For four children to ride, we need 12 volunteers for that class.
00:49For an individual child to ride, we need one leader and two side walkers.
00:53It doesn't require any experience with horses to be a volunteer.
00:57The association is always looking for extra hands to make sure that the children are safe while riding.
01:03It's a great place, it's a very social thing.
01:05We have some volunteers coming 13, 14 years, two, three times a week and they're all great friends.
01:12And it's a rewarding thing to do and a nice way to spend your time.
01:17The participating disabled children need to be at least four years old and registering a child into the program
01:23is made simple through emailing the organization at lessons at rdad.ae.
01:29Anyone interested in volunteering can go to the Riding for the Disabled website for details.
01:34Maryam Rasheed for Gulf News.
