00:00I was excited to be here. I had to do that commentary.
00:18You've been in the industry for a long, long time, Joel.
00:22Yes. 42 years.
00:24Wow.
00:26Or I was in 1982.
00:28But did you know that you were crushed by the country when you started?
00:30I didn't know that.
00:32No, that's true.
00:34You know, the golden age, etc.
00:36But all these years, how did you maintain that your private life is yours?
00:43And your professional life, okay, is yours?
00:47Because first of all, I'm a shy person.
00:50That's why I joined acting when I was young.
00:54Peke and I were already in the theater.
00:57So I had to...
00:59I was shy.
01:02I had to hurdle that.
01:04But for me, it was professional.
01:08As an actor, my acting and my private life are different.
01:12And my father really told us,
01:16Joel, always remember, you only have one name.
01:20And make sure you take care of it.
01:23Yes, I really take care of it.
01:25And I remember that story.
01:27Seven years old, Peke Galiaga, the great Peke Galiaga,
01:29saw you in a play, went to your house,
01:31and said, I want you to be in all my plays.
01:35Right?
01:37That's my first memory of Peke.
01:39Who was my mentor, my friend, my guru, my father.
01:43A lot of people say that the true measure of success in this business is longevity.
01:50Some say that a good actor measures who you are as an actor.
01:55You have both.
01:57That's my question.
01:59Number one, who is a good actor, Joel?
02:03And how can a good actor last in the business for 52 years?
02:10First of all, you have to love your job.
02:13I love my job.
02:15That's what Mg. Vic Silayan told me.
02:21He said, when we were together in Karnal in 1983-84,
02:25Joel, you have to love your job so that your job will love you back.
02:29So true enough, you put everything, your mind, body, and soul, into your craft.
02:35And it comes back to you because you need to have full focus.
02:39You have to invest in yourself, invest in your craft.
02:43And the differentiation between the actor and the person,
02:47the actor is only as good as the person.
02:51An artist is only as good as the person itself.
02:55Stanislavski said that actors are people who are ideal human beings
03:01because we study life.
03:03If you go through acting books, we study how people react,
03:09and everything, mind, body, job, craft, emotions, and everything.
03:13You wonder about life.
03:15So as a person, you should be like that.
03:18Not only in, there is no division between the artist and the person.
