More than 20,000 unregistered medical devices such as fertility test kits, pregnancy test kits and condoms were seized during an operation by the Medical Authority Devices (MDA), says Dr Muralitharan Paramasua.
In a press conference at the MDA headquarters on Friday (Dec 6), the MDA chief executive said the MDA’s post-market and enforcement division had conducted a raid on a medical device supplier company in the Sungai Besar area in Selangor.
The authorities also found the company had been able to continue its business of selling medical devices imported from China, without being detected by the authorities, as it was operated from a home.

01:57in one company only.
01:59And as it has been stated,
02:03this company does not have a valid license to do so.
02:08So when we conducted the survey,
02:09we found that they were selling from their home.
02:13Their store is their residence.
02:17So they were using their residence to conduct this work.
02:22So this is a big surprise
02:27and also a very important surprise for us
02:33because these devices or these buying kits
02:37involve the public.
02:39Especially, for example, pregnancy test kits, fertility test kits
02:43which involve the public.
02:45If they do not have a license
02:46and do not have a MDA registration,
02:49it means that their fortunes can be doubted.
02:55When their fortunes are doubted,
02:57their decisions are also doubted.
02:58So it can cause a wrong decision
03:02or a decision that is doubted
03:05that can cause panic among the public.
03:08So that's why the MDA action is to continue to spy on this company.
03:14And so far, we have confiscated all the goods
03:20that have been sold by this company.
03:24And we will sue them in court
03:27because Section 5 and Section 15 of Article 737
03:31their actions are for us to bring to court
03:37to be punished or to be sentenced to prison.
03:40So this is a serious crime for the MDA.
03:45And this complaint against this company was made by the public.
03:50So the MDA is proud because the public is impartial
03:54about the things that are happening around them
03:57and they are the ones who give the evidence.
03:58From there, our police force, led by Mr. Dary
04:06conducted an investigation and then the investigation was conducted by Mr. Jemintra and his team.
04:14The investigation paper will be completed by the IO.

04:19He has been operating for more than three years
04:22but he sells goods that are consumer products.
