The Princess Royal visits NCI Shoreham and meets many of the volunteer watchkeepers
Transcript
00:00So obviously when Princess Aang comes in, she'll be coming up to the station here, meeting
00:24the watch keepers on watch at the moment.
00:27They'll be looking out for small ships, kite boarders, anything that can be a danger.
00:35We'll show her the area that we can survey, show her the CCTV of the area from Brighton
00:45to Worthing and make sure that everybody's safe basically and she'll have a chat obviously
00:54to the watch keepers.
00:57There's Dennis, he's our founder member here, so he'll have a word with her and obviously
01:06she'll have a word with him.
01:10Obviously we've got CCTV, radar, we've got 6 marine radios and a computer with AIS on
01:22the weather station, so it's a lot to...
01:26Yeah, it's quite rough at the moment isn't it?
01:29Yes, it's, what's it now, it's a full 6 to Aaroners, which, what do you want?
01:47Yeah.
01:48Is your new, well, newish camera, that does great help doesn't it?
01:52Oh, it's, well yes, Craig would tell you when we had an incident over towards Lansing, we
02:02couldn't see them because of the fault, the hump in the fault, but now we've got the camera
02:08above that, it can look down onto Lansing Beach and we saw them coming out of the water,
02:16so it was great, and shortly it will be linked to the Southern Coast Guard, which will be
02:25a great help to them, and any search and rescue.
02:29Yeah, we're still controlling it, so they'll have to tell us what to look out for.
03:46Royal Alliance, ladies and gentlemen, it's my privilege as NCI Chair to welcome you on
04:04behalf of Volunteer Watchkeepers, our partners and our supporters to NCI Shore.
04:09It's a visit marks the 16th year of NCI Shore working to help our search and rescue partners
04:15save lives along the coast, and you've heard how active the station is in particularly
04:20spotting leisure users who get into distressed paddleboards, and in its history the station's
04:26been involved in 274 search and rescue incidents, initiating 154 of those rescues.
04:35So we are extremely grateful to you Royal Alliance for your continued time and commitment to NCI.
04:41This is your seventh visit to an NCI station in this, our 30th anniversary year.

05:30I'm delighted to have the opportunity to visit as many of the NCIs as I can,
05:35as you can see that's becoming a bit of a challenge.
05:38As you may also notice the weather can be more of a challenge.
05:42Anyway, it's a pleasure to see you.
