00:00Dubai Police always believe of the importance of community participation between the public
00:08and police.
00:09Volunteers across Dubai were invited by Dubai Police to participate in Dubai Police Bikers
00:14Unit.
00:15It's a step to increase the awareness among society about the precautionary measures to
00:19curb COVID-19.
00:20I'm Ali from Gulf News and tonight we will take you on a ride along with Dubai Police
00:26Bikers Unit at JPR.
00:30Dubai Police Initiative called Ride with Dubai Bikers Unit came under a directive by Lieutenant
00:35General Abdullah Khalifa Al-Murry, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, to encourage people to participate
00:39in the voluntary work as part of their social responsibility.
00:42We've been doing it since 14th of May.
00:45It's been like 18 days right now.
00:47We've opened the opportunity to participate with us on our website.
00:51There was a link and people started applying.
00:53In the first three days, we've got around 4,500 requests to participate.
00:58More than 168 volunteers participated with us from 30 different nationalities in 564
01:05different patrols.
01:06Including those nationalities was an aim that we were looking after because as you know
01:11Dubai is an international city and holds within it different nationalities.
01:15We were aiming at including most of the public because everyone is responsible in assuring
01:22and following these proactive measures.
01:25The police are not alone in this.
01:26We are all into this mission, into this aim to follow up the procedures and to look after
01:33the public so the public will follow these procedures.
01:36More than 6,000 people applied for the initiative to paddle in certain Dubai locations and share
01:41information with the public on the precautionary and preventive measures enforced to help combat
01:46the COVID-19 pandemic like the importance of social distancing, wearing masks and gloves
01:50as well as complying with the movement restrictions.
01:53Violators will be subject of 3,000 dirham fine if they caught violating the orders.
01:58The volunteers' responsibility is to look after the proactive measures which we were
02:02talking about to guide the public into following up these procedures.
02:06If the matter and the situation requires the police to intervene, the police personnel
02:10will intervene.
02:11Each patrol will have a police personnel within it with a group of volunteers.
02:14We are assuring that in each group of volunteers there will be a police personnel to intervene
02:20when the situation arises.
02:21We are here, Dubai Police, stabbing people because it's around 12am.
02:31So we are here in JPR, they are stabbing people, asking if they have a permit to move, if they
02:36are complying with the precautionary measures like wearing masks and gloves.
02:41The ride with the Dubai Police bikers unit, it's really nice, I mean, you see the city
02:55and you see a lot of people really complying with the precautionary measures taken by the
03:02authority.
03:03I am finding it a very interesting experience because it's very enlightening to see how
03:08the police work and how people are responding to the rules and it's very astonishing to
03:15see how many people are following the rules and we haven't seen that many people out,
03:20which speaks a lot about the awareness that's spread around the UAE and I'm happy to be
03:26part of something that's really big.
03:29The COVID-19 pandemic has already taught us so much, not least the importance of looking
03:34out for our neighbours and each other during hard times.
03:37Such duties were summarised by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum who
03:41said everyone is responsible for everyone.
