00:00I feel like Bing Bong considers himself an old-school performer.
00:04You know, I don't think he thinks he's a monster.
00:06He's a performer.
00:07He's a performer. He's from Vaudeville.
00:10Yes, indeed.
00:11Hi, I'm Amy Poehler, and I play Joy.
00:13And I'm Maya Hawke, and I play Anxiety.
00:16Hi, I'm Louis Black, and I play Anger.
00:18I'm Lisa Lepera, and I play Disgust.
00:20I'm Tony Hale, and I play Fear.
00:22And we are here to debunk the wildest inside-out theories.
00:26Let's check it out.
00:31From at just the nobodies.
00:34So there's a theory going around that Bing Bong is actually a monster from Monsters, Inc.
00:39that has visited Riley when she was younger, and the memory of him has lived with her.
00:44Can you guys confirm or deny this theory?
00:46Oh my goodness, this gives me so much joy.
00:48Wow, that's a cool one. I've never heard that.
00:50I feel like I cannot confirm nor deny.
00:52I can only celebrate the creativity and the joy in that.
00:55Yeah, I'm gonna deny.
00:58Deny, okay.
00:59I think no. I don't know why I just don't get that vibe from Bing Bong.
01:02I don't want to debunk that. I like that theory.
01:05I like the kind of metaverse of Pixar that some, they're all weirdly connected.
01:09I like the idea that Bing Bong is still with us, because it broke me when he left.
01:15This is from at popculturebrain thinks.
01:19Eagle-eyed fans noticed that Riley has a 4Town poster on her wall.
01:23Who's 4Town? They're the fictional boy band from the movie Turning Red.
01:27So either 4Town exists across multiple universes,
01:30or Turning Red and Inside Out shared the same universe.
01:33And maybe Riley and May could run into each other at a 4Town concert.
01:37I'm just impressed 4Town has stuck it out as long as they have.
01:40They've been a band for a lot of years, considering Turning Red takes place in 2002.
01:44And the Inside Out movies likely take place years later.
01:47That's the first I've heard of 4Town.
01:48Oh, I remember them from Turning Red.
01:50I don't think they're interconnected because of the time gap.
01:53So I think that they might be like a vampire boy band, like 7,000 years old.
02:00And there's like a band that looks young forever.
02:03I remember my first 4Town concert.
02:06And I was just young, and yeah, I went with my older cousin.
02:11Is 4Town a real band?
02:13No.
02:13Oh, OK. Sorry, I got really, I know you were going for a joke,
02:16and then I got confused and I ruined it.
02:18Ruined it with my dum-dum brain.
02:19No, no, 4Town would forgive you.
02:21OK, yeah, even though they're not real.
02:23Can we go to a 4Town concert together?
02:25Yes.
02:26OK.
02:27Maybe she kept it as a nostalgia item.
02:29She got it at, like, a craft sale.
02:32That's another theory that I really never thought of and won't think of again.
02:37From hourglass dolphin.
02:40OK.
02:42All right.
02:44Anxiety exists in this film as a corrupt mixture between joy and fear.
02:50Envy is wide-eyed as if expressing wonder, which I'd argue is connected to fear.
02:56And I think this could represent disgust turning inward.
02:59Embarrassment is a combination of anger and fear.
03:02Finally, ennui arises out of the way fear prevents any change from the emotional state of sadness.
03:10Wow, that is...
03:11Did you write this? Because it's very fear-based.
03:14It's also a dissertation.
03:16Yeah, it is. That's exactly it.
03:18This feels honestly like someone who's trying to make a word count on their term paper.
03:23Yes.
03:24Because it feels like they're stretching this argument to finish their assignment.
03:28Congrats.
03:29I don't understand any of that.
03:30No.
03:31I know in your brain it makes sense.
03:32Yeah, I don't understand it.
03:34No, none of it.
03:35Look, joy, anxiety doesn't exist as a corrupt mixture of joy and fear.
03:39Oh, I missed the corrupt.
03:40Corrupt mixture of joy and fear.
03:43Anyways, we don't get it.
03:44It's arguably debatable with color theory whether or not there are more than the three primary colors that are presented to us.
03:50And I guess it's maybe debatable with emotion theory as well.
03:53And I, too, am working on my term paper word count.
03:55Very cool.
03:56I'm very impressed by the term color theory and how you've used it.
03:59I think this is true because they've used parentheses and brackets.
04:03And that's when you know things are true.
04:04And capitalization.
04:05Yeah.
04:06And they've said which I'd argue.
04:08And if you put that in something, it's true.
04:09You're 100% right.
04:10I would grade this term paper...
04:12Smiley face.
04:13Yeah, smiley face because there's no more letter grades anymore.
04:16No, no, that's over.
04:17We don't do that.
04:18From the hero, but the E in hero is a three.
04:21You will think that this Disney theory is unbelievable.
04:24Do you remember the scene in Inside Out when Riley steals her mom's credit card?
04:29Well, what if I told you that the credit card actually belongs to someone else?
04:33The name on the credit card is K. Ann Anderson.
04:36Riley's mom's name is actually Jill Anderson.
04:39But then who is K. Ann Anderson?
04:42The answer to that question is Bonnie Anderson's mom from Toy Story.
04:46That means Riley's mom from Inside Out stole Bonnie's mom from Toy Story's credit card.
04:52Maybe that's the real reason Riley's family moved.
04:57Wow.
04:58This seems like a nonsense to me.
05:00This one did confuse me.
05:02Are we sure that that's what it says on the back of the credit card?
05:05Are you reading it right?
05:06Let's start there.
05:07Yeah.
05:08And then what would it mean that she stole it?
05:11I thought they were going to say she stole her identity.
05:14Or like they're sisters.
05:16Yeah.
05:17Or like it was a whoopsie doozle.
05:19Who's Jill? Who's Jill?
05:20Jill is the mom in Inside Out.
05:22And K is the mom from Toy Story.
05:24Toy Story.
05:25Okay, then. Oh, wait. Jill's the mom.
05:27So what does the card say?
05:29The card says K.
05:31So they're saying Jill stole it from K.
05:33What about the obvious that Jill is K's daughter?
05:36And maybe she has cut moms.
05:37Or what about the obvious is how does somebody even have the time to do this?
05:42How do you even look to see what was on the credit card?
05:47Well, Louis, let's not bash other people's hobbies.
05:50Are you sure it's K. Ann Anderson?
05:52Yeah, he said it really confidently, but when he showed the picture it was just blurry screen.
05:57Blurry and cursive, and I can't read my signature on the back of my credit card.
06:00Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:01Sneaking around in other animations, this is madness.
06:05Okay, Z Chong 7 says,
06:10As Bing Bong dies, he says, take her to the moon for me.
06:14Does Riley become an astronaut, or does she follow her love of hockey?
06:18Or does she discover something else and does that?
06:22Wow, I love metaphorically the idea that Riley is an astronaut.
06:27Me too.
06:28That she's kind of discovering different galaxies in herself.
06:32And I think that's what Bing Bong means.
06:34I think he means take her to the moon, like get her there, get her to being a grown up, get her to the moon in the start, right?
06:39Or am I wrong about that?
06:40I think so.
06:41Does he mean the moon?
06:42Also, you know what I love about that moment is Bing Bong's take her to the moon for me is so old fashioned.
06:48Take her to the moon for me, okay?
06:52He makes these grand gestures like he's in, you know, playing at the back of the house.
06:57Yes.
06:58It's like here's looking at you, kid.
07:00Exactly.
07:01Take her to the moon for me.
07:02It's very Bogart.
07:03I think she discovers something else and does that.
07:06I agree.
07:07I don't think she's going to the moon.
07:08No, I also think take her to the moon.
07:11Not happening.
07:12She's not going to the moon.
07:13She's not going.
07:14She's not going.
07:15Who knows what she's going to grow up to be?
07:16Probably not a professional hockey player or an astronaut.
07:19No, probably.
07:20All likely she'll do something, be like a dental hygienist.
07:23One can hope, because that's an actually great, steady job.
07:26That's a really good job.
07:27Yeah, really good job.
07:29I think take her to the moon for me, it's a phrase.
07:31It's not literally go to the moon, right?
07:34Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, totally.
07:35This is from Be Amazed Media.
07:37Well, where do they come up with that?
07:40The names?
07:41In 2015's Inside Out, we take it for granted that the beings inside Riley's head,
07:45as well as her imaginary friend Bing Bong,
07:48are either representations of her emotions or products of her imagination.
07:52But what if they existed in a much more literal way?
07:55Real-world research in recent years has hinted that bacteria present in our bodies and brains
08:00has the ability to influence our emotions and the functions of our brain.
08:04So what if the creatures in Riley's head are actually some kind of mind-controlling bacteria?
08:10I didn't like that.
08:11I didn't like that.
08:13There was a person in some kind of hazmat suit.
08:16There was a microscope.
08:18Don't ruin it.
08:19Just don't ruin it.
08:21Don't make it yucky.
08:22Like, why do we have to talk about bacteria?
08:25You're the one with bacteria.
08:27It also takes all the joy out of the film.
08:30Take a step back and just enjoy it, man.
08:33Let's not break it down that much.
08:36Bacteria destroying, that's like getting into alien territory.
08:39Yeah, that's like nauseating.
08:42Mind-controlling bacteria.
08:44Lapis Lazuli the Best says,
08:47Given how brief and simple Surprise is, I don't think Surprise is a character at all,
08:52but rather the console's default setting.
08:55It activates when Riley sees something new.
08:57This is because Surprise is actually a neutral emotion that is usually followed by another,
09:02like fear or joy.
09:03The other five are activated when a character emotion takes control of the console.
09:08Surprise isn't a character.
09:09Who are we arguing with?
09:12Someone must have said Surprise is a character.
09:14Was gonna be a character.
09:15Yeah.
09:16It's a great question.
09:17Is Surprise an emotion?
09:18It almost feels more like a reaction.
09:20Yeah.
09:21The director said there's 27 different emotions.
09:23I wonder if it's one of them.
09:24I wonder.
09:25We'd have to look it up.
09:26Too lazy to do it.
09:27Don't care that much.
09:28Just like literally my phone is right there.
09:30I could.
09:31Central Jersey says,
09:33I have a theory that the Elemental movie by Pixar takes place inside Riley's head in her limbic system.
09:40It's responsible for subjective pleasure,
09:43coordinating some movements, temperatures, regulation,
09:47and communication with the endocrine system.
09:50Its citizens can't logically conclude they're in a brain.
09:53We're actors.
09:54Yeah.
09:55Literally, this is not ER, guys.
09:57Like what?
09:58Chill.
09:59Someone call Dr. McDreamy.
10:00I can't answer this question.
10:02Where's Dr. Dempsey?
10:03Yeah.
10:04I need more units of plasma.
10:05Just this is not working.
10:07I don't know.
10:08I don't know.
10:09There are two different movies,
10:10and they're cool,
10:11both of them individually.
10:13That could be that Elemental lives in her brain.
10:17Yes.
10:18Wow.
10:19Stamp approved.
10:22Delusional?
10:23Of course I'm delusional!
10:26Do you know how hard it is to stay positive all the time
10:28when all you folks do is complain, complain, complain!
10:32Jiminy, mother-loving toaster strudel!
10:34If she's angry, does this imply that each emotion has its own emotions HQ in their head?
10:41We've been talking about this.
10:42Yeah.
10:43And the changes keeps continuing forever.
10:44Maybe.
10:45Maybe.
10:46We were talking about this.
10:47Do the emotions have emotions?
10:48I like that idea.
10:49I know.
10:50Like she is accessing anger in that moment for sure.
10:52And yeah, when does that end?
10:54Like that's just like an MC Escher, you know, loop that never ends.
10:57They're definitely not one-dimensional characters.
10:59They definitely do experience other emotions.
11:01That was really fun to do,
11:03because Joy never gets to be angry, very rarely.
11:07So when she gets to let it out, it's a blast.
11:10When anxiety moves into Riley's headquarters,
11:12she brings a lot of baggage with her.
11:14Now while that is symbolic,
11:15notice how the parents don't have the anxiety emotions
11:17or any of the new emotions really,
11:19which implies that the classic emotions make it back to headquarters and defeat anxiety.
11:23Maybe not necessarily defeat anxiety,
11:25but find a way to suppress it as most people learn to do during high school.
11:29And I think sadness is going to play a huge role in this.
11:31Notice how in the trailer, sadness is not with the original group
11:34as they're kicked off from headquarters,
11:36which makes me think that sadness will join the side of the new emotions temporarily
11:40to defeat anxiety from the inside.
11:43Why does he have to talk so fast?
11:45That's really fast, man.
11:47I would say to this user, good catch that she isn't there,
11:50but it's for a different reason than you think.
11:52She does play a pivotal role.
11:53Yeah, she does.
11:54It's a good theory for someone who hasn't seen Inside Out 2,
11:58which is coming to theaters on June 14th.
12:00From Gangarmon0413.
12:04We see inside the heads of adults,
12:06and they just had the same basic five emotions Riley had.
12:09So if people get new emotions during puberty,
12:12then why don't adults have them?
12:14I think they come to the surface during events of extreme emotion,
12:17like during adolescence, and then after that,
12:19they go back in the background mind forever,
12:21and they don't stay in headquarters forever.
12:24That's cool. That's an interesting idea.
12:26The core five are there at the console, right?
12:30And then during the chaos of puberty, anxiety, embarrassment,
12:34the other ones show up.
12:36But then when we go to adults,
12:37like when we look at Riley's mom and dad,
12:39they still have the core five.
12:40So where did their anxieties go?
12:42Where did their embarrassment?
12:43And they're saying that they go to the background mind area,
12:46like they're in the back office,
12:47and they don't stay in the headquarters.
12:49I don't know, because I think as an adult,
12:51it's still so challenging to get to the core emotions.
12:54But if you grow older,
12:55you kind of just basically deal with those five
12:58unless the others come into play for any reason.
13:00It also might be interesting, just to pitch for the third one,
13:03where there's a place separate from headquarters
13:06where these more complicated emotions hang out,
13:09like a lounge where they're kind of waiting to go on.
13:13That would be fun.
13:14I'd like to see that.
13:15Me too, where they're just kind of like
13:16in almost like an emotional batting cage,
13:18and they're just getting ready.
13:20So I guess that's cool. I agree. I bunk that.
13:24Yeah, me too.
13:25I think there's a level at which this is psychotic, okay?
13:30Not majorly psychotic, but a small P,
13:34just a little nutty.
13:36Lose his middle neighbor's encouragement.
13:38Yeah.
13:39Well, yeah, but it's an odd thing to go into depth.
13:44Just enjoy it on June 14th.
13:47Go there, sit down, zip it, and have a good time.
13:52And don't worry about the rest of it, okay?
13:54There are other things to concern yourself with,
13:57like your own emotions.
13:58I want your voice in the theaters just going like,
14:01sit down, zip it.
14:03Shut off your phones.
14:04Yeah. Good job, everybody. Good job.
14:06Really?
14:07My favorite thing about human beings is that we,
14:10not only do we have dreams and ideas and tell stories,
14:13we then tell stories about each other's stories.
14:15We write songs about each other's songs.
14:16We make movies about each other's movies.
14:18It's really an endless wormhole,
14:20but it's one of my favorite wormholes in the world.
14:22There's nothing more inspiring
14:24that should inspire you to make art than great art.
14:27So I think it's really cool,
14:28and I hope that every idea that we debunked,
14:30someone just goes and does it in their own creative story.
14:33Yes, and as members of the Illuminati,
14:35we thank you for joining us today.
14:37Indeed.
