King Charles has paid tribute to the "enduring friendship" between Britain and Qatar, as His Majesty hosted Qatar's Emir at a State Banquet at Buckingham Palace.
Queen Camilla attended the gathering, despite not taking part in outdoor elements of the Emir's two-day visit as she recovers from pneumonia. But Princess Kate was absent, as she continues a gradual return to public duties after she began treatment for cancer in February.
Among the 170 guests in the Buckingham Palace ballroom were David and Victoria Beckham, Foreign Secretary David Lammy and Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch. Report by Brooksl. Like us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/itn and follow us on Twitter at http://twitter.com/itn

04:15Your Highnesses,
04:43As-salamu alaykum. It gives my wife and myself the greatest possible pleasure to welcome
04:51you to Buckingham Palace this evening on your first state visit to the United Kingdom. In
04:58many ways this evening might be seen as a homecoming. Your Highness is no stranger to
05:05these shores, having spent so many of your younger years here at three of our most renowned
05:13institutions – Sherbourne, Harrow and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Your many
05:21visits since then have served as a testament to the close personal ties that bind our nations
05:29and our families. This evening I am delighted to mark the renewal of our enduring friendship.
05:39I would like to propose a toast to Your Highnesses, to the enduring friendship between the State
05:58of Qatar and the United Kingdom and to the continued prosperity and wellbeing of our peoples.
06:28Your Majesty, Your Royal Highnesses, distinguished guests, it is a wonderful privilege to be here
06:54this evening. I thank you for your gracious invitation to this dinner and for the friendship
07:02that you and the Queen have shown me, my wife and all the Qatari people. The personal connections
07:12between our families are strong and long-lasting. Back in 2010, your mother, the late and cherished
07:24Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, told my father that she saw the Qatari people as old and valued
07:34friends and expressed her hope that the UK would be a home away from home for them, and it certainly
07:45is. The United Kingdom and Qatar are not only friends but partners. Through our joint diplomacy
07:56efforts, cultural exchanges and economic investments, we shape the global landscape.
08:03I would like to commend Your Majesty for your steadfast commitment and unfailing leadership,
08:13promoting interfaith dialogue, peace efforts and protection of environment. Thank you once
08:23again for your incredible hospitality and let us pray for the continued health of His Majesty
08:31and to the strength of our alliance and friendship. Thank you very much.
