Trafalgar Square Christmas tree mocked as it is goes up after arrival in London from Norway
Transcript
00:00The Trafalgar Square Christmas tree is back, and once again Londoners wasted no time in
00:05mocking it. However, this time the tree is fighting back.
00:09The spruce has been transported hundreds of miles from Norway's Nordmarker forest and
00:14was installed in central London on Monday. Officials have said the tree will need time
00:18to unfurl properly after its travels, before appearing at its full height of 66 feet.
00:23But as expected, people have already taken to social media to share their opinion on
00:28Some called it half-dead, while others branded it a national disgrace. Trees from previous
00:33years have suffered a similar fate. However, what was less expected was the tree
00:38fighting back against criticism on X. The tree brushed off the negative comments
00:43by tweeting,
00:49The Lord Mayor of Westminster, who helped fell the tree in Oslo, added that it may look
00:52slightly flat at first, but that it would soon unfurl and look majestic.
00:57And other Londoners agreed, with one noting it is a reminder of mutual respect between
01:02countries and that they're grateful to see the tree every year.
01:05The tree's lights will be switched on on December 5th, and it will stand in pride of place until
01:10January 6th. After this, it will be recycled and used as mulch in gardens around the city.
