Bluesky is a new social media platform taking the internet by storm, but what is it?
Transcript
00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. Today we're going to be talking about BlueSky,
00:03a fairly new social media platform and how it's causing a mass exodus away from the platform
00:08formerly known as Twitter. Now BlueSky started within Twitter back in 2019 before becoming an
00:13independent company in 2021. It's very similar to X with words and photos blending together to
00:18create a personalized timeline based on the interests of each user. The difference in this
00:22case is that users have more control over the algorithm, meaning they can filter out topics
00:25and items that they don't want to see. There's also a lot of anti-toxicity features including
00:30effective blocking and reporting functions which have lacked effectiveness on X since Elon Musk's
00:34arrival at the platform. Since Twitter became X in fact the website's seen a bit of a reduction
00:39in its user base. Many have complained about spam bots and the rise of extremist views which have
00:44caused many to abandon the platform. BlueSky still has a long way to go before replacing X
00:48but it has seen a dramatic rise in user base. Indeed if you are on BlueSky drop me a follow,
00:53I'm Theo Huston Betts on there or our very own Patrick Hollis, Rich Fay and Michael Plant
00:58all have accounts set up as well.
