00:00Now, before we go on, I have some news to announce, and the team's here, they know this
00:05news already. I'm leaving News Breakfast at the end of next week. I'm sorry to the viewers out
00:12there for the short notice. I'm not one for long and drawn out farewells. I wanted minimal fuss.
00:18But after 15 years of 3am starts, I love the job. It's the best job I've had in the ABC,
00:24in fact, anywhere. But after 15 years of 3am starts, my body is screaming enough,
00:31and so too is my wife. It's been an immense privilege to be here for 15 years presenting
00:38the news to our viewers. That to me has been by far the most important part of the job for me.
00:45Sure, I've enjoyed flicking the switch to vaudeville doing all the Breakfast TV stuff,
00:49but to be here every morning, bringing you news good and bad has been a great joy.
00:55I do leave with a heavy heart. The ABC asked me to stay on until at least the next election, which
01:02may not be until May. I've decided now is the right time to step back. Thank you to the bosses
01:09for being so supportive of that. I'm going to take a long break and come back to the ABC
01:15to some other projects towards the middle of next year.
