00:20Tens of thousands of Spaniards have taken to the streets of Valencia a month after floods
00:25devastated the city to demand the resignation of local officials.
00:31The 21st edition of the Marrakesh International Film Festival, one of the largest in the Middle
00:36East and North Africa, gets underway.
00:42Protesters have gathered across Georgia for a third consecutive night after the government
00:46decided to suspend negotiations to join the European Union.
00:51Local media outlets reported seeing protesters being chased and beaten by police as demonstrators
00:56rallied in front of the country's parliament building.
00:59The ruling Georgian Dream Party's disputed victory in the country's parliamentary elections
01:04sparked major demonstrations and led to an opposition boycott of the parliament.
01:09The government's announcement that it was suspending accession negotiations came hours
01:13after the European Parliament adopted a resolution that condemned the vote as neither free nor
01:18fair.
01:19EU lawmakers urged a rerun within a year under thorough international supervision and by
01:24an independent election administration.
01:28Georgian Prime Minister Iraqli Kobi Hidze denounced what he described as a cascade of
01:32insults from EU politicians and accused them of blackmail.
01:42Polling stations have opened across Romania, where millions are casting their ballots in
01:46the country's parliamentary election.
01:48But it comes just one week after a controversial first round of the presidential race and a
01:52sandwich between the runoff vote set for next week.
01:56And while the president has significant decision-making powers in Romania, it's the prime minister
02:00that heads the government.
02:02Last week's presidential vote saw far-right independent candidate Kilin Jorgescu win 23
02:08percent of the vote.
02:09Jorgescu's win has been marred with controversy, with Romania's top court requesting a recount
02:14of votes and launching a probe into potential foreign interference.
02:19Jorgescu's campaign, promoted only via social media platform TikTok, has often displayed
02:24anti-NATO and anti-EU rhetoric.
02:27Political analysts have been reluctant to predict the outcome of Sunday's parliamentary
02:31vote.
02:32Many are waiting to see if the political tide has shifted in Romania and has veered towards
02:36populist politics.
02:42One hundred and thirty thousand people have taken part in a major march in the eastern
02:46Spanish city of Valencia a month after the devastating floods.
02:51They're demanding the resignation of regional officials who they accuse of funding the emergency
02:55response that led to the deaths of more than 230 people.
03:00They say emergency alerts were only sent to their mobile phones after some areas had already
03:04been submerged.
03:06The president of the Valencian community, Carlos MezΓ³n, has resisted such calls, instead
03:11reshuffling his cabinet and appointing new faces to lead recovery efforts.
03:16MezΓ³n refuses to take sole responsibility of the tragedy, but acknowledged that mistakes
03:21were made.
03:22He says the floods were apocalyptic and unprecedented in nature, indicating that not much more could
03:28have been done to change the outcome.
03:30But MezΓ³n insists his government is fully committed to recovery efforts and are working
03:34hard at restoring the city's infrastructure to pre-flood levels.
03:40The Marrakech International Film Festival opened Friday night with actors and filmmakers
03:45from around the world gracing the red carpet.
03:48Seventy features from 32 countries are being showcased for movie lovers at the festival.
03:54The competition also contains 14 first or second films contesting for Gold Star and
04:00other prestigious awards.
04:02I want to see cinema that provokes me.
04:06I want to see cinema that doesn't try to be tidy.
04:10I want to see cinema that is taking big risks.
04:13I want to see cinema that can be not perfect, but alive.
04:18You never know, but you know when a movie really grabs you and it teaches you something.
04:24Organizers say prominence will be given to emerging talent from the Middle East and Africa.
04:29I live in a bubble in England or America, and I see things, but when you're working
04:34you don't really see that much, you kind of go into your own sort of hermetically sealed
04:39world.
04:40So it's like coming to something like this, you get a bit more of a sense and learn a
04:43bit more.
04:44In its 21st edition, the week-long festival is increasingly making its presence felt.
