00:22to lower the price of rice to a more affordable price.

00:26They are a family of 5 who are sharing a budget of P300 for rice daily.

00:33How much will you be able to save?

00:35I don't know, maybe P30.

00:37It's a big deal for the President to lower the price of rice to a more affordable price.

00:39Jason is also a big fan of the rice vendor

00:42especially that he is able to save a lot of money on his groceries.

00:45But he needs to make sure that there is a sufficient supply of rice in the market.

00:49He admitted that it will have a big impact on his income

00:52but he is supportive if there are a lot of people who can benefit from it.

00:55For now, the regular rice is P43, the cheapest rice that can be bought in his place in Munoz Market in Quezon City.

01:02According to Albay Second District Representative Joey Salceda,

01:05it is possible to lower the price of rice from P29 to P30 per kilo

01:10by targeting middlemen, cartels, and those who are in the rice trade sector.

01:15Despite the tariff reduction in July, the price of rice still increased

01:19and the manipulation of the price from 2012 to now is being investigated.

01:25They aim to catch smugglers, hoarders, and profiteers

01:28so that these kinds of activities will be allowed.

01:30Salceda added that based on the farm gate price of Central Luzon,

01:34the price of milled rice should be P37 per kilo

01:38but the price in the market is still high.

01:41It is expected that before Christmas, the committee will issue a recommendation

01:44to President Ferdinand R. Marquez Jr.

01:47so that he can help in reducing the price of use as a Christmas gift to the Filipinos.
