00:00Yorkshire's fastest-growing exporters, a new sustainable neighbourhood in Lincolnshire,
00:05funding for a vehicle provider, and an MBO at a company that started out as a blacksmith
00:09shop all feature in today's Business Briefing.
00:11Morning, Steve-O.
00:13Morning.
00:14So I'll start things off.
00:20A vehicle rental provider based in Kent has secured £4 million in funding to expand its
00:24fleet.
00:25London Hire, which was founded 40 years ago, has a turnover of £40 million.
00:29They also employ over 700 people.
00:32They provide a wide range of vehicles, from small cars to buses, for both short-term and
00:36contract hire.
00:37And these are supplied across London and councils across the south of the country.
00:42The business will use the funding from Paragon's Bank SME Lending Division to purchase a new
00:46range of wheelchair-accessible minibuses, as well as generally expanding their operations.
00:53But as I know you've got news on the fastest-growing exporters in Yorkshire.
00:56Yeah, so the December edition of the Yorkshire Business Insider magazine is out now.
01:01In that, we've got our annual list of the, well, the Global Growth 100 Lead Table, which
01:05is our annual list of the 100 fastest-growing businesses in the Yorkshire and Humber region
01:11that are banked by their overseas sales.
01:15So topping the table this year is Generator Power, which specialises in the hire of generator
01:20power systems, as you might be able to guess.
01:23It has reported rising demand for its customers across sectors, including critical national
01:27infrastructure, hospitals, utilities, telecoms and retail.
01:32Among the other companies to feature, we have Shark Ninja Europe, which may be familiar
01:37to people.
01:38It's behind the brands Shark, the vacuum cleaner brand, and Ninja, which is barbecues and air
01:42flyers.
01:43Really creative names today.
01:44Yeah.
01:45So the company has recently expanded at Sleede's office, which is based over at Thorpe Park,
01:49where it currently employs about 280 people.
01:52So yeah, growing strongly there.
01:54We will have more stories focused on the technology businesses and the manufacturing businesses
01:59on the list in the next couple of days, and for the full list, you can check out the magazine.
02:04Definitely check out the full list in the magazine.
02:06We're moving into property now in Lincolnshire, a proposed development of up to 1,350 homes,
02:12as well as a range of retail and leisure facilities is set to go before planners next week.
02:18There are four different applicants behind the schemes, obviously quite a major development.
02:21They're all proposing the construction of a primary school, a wine bar, and a takeaway
02:26in addition to the home.
02:27So that's almost like a small village almost.
02:29Everything you need.
02:30Yeah.
02:31It's been described as quite a sustainable neighborhood, so I understand lots of environmental
02:35consideration has gone into the scheme as well.
02:38The site is an area of 200 acres, which is set just to the north of Stamford.
02:42It's a range of fields and playing pitches in the vaudeville sports center.
02:46I understand that Sport England has actually made an objection over the loss of those fields.
02:50We'll see what's made of it.
02:52South Steven's planning committee will make their decision on the scheme on 5th December.
02:57So I understand you've got a story in the Midlands to finish off.
03:00Yeah.
03:01So I think first we've got the management buyout at a plant hire, parts and sales specialist,
03:05which actually started its life out in 1937 as a blacksmith shop.
03:09Quite the transition.
03:10Yeah.
03:11Really different move there.
03:13So AT Wild & Sons was founded by Alfred Thomas Wild.
03:16It now supplies a range of machines, parts and hire services to the agriculture, construction
03:21and plant hire sectors across Shropshire.
03:25Following the decision by the third generation of the family to sell up, it has been acquired
03:28by Peter Venn, who is an entrepreneur in the plant hire sector.
03:32He's acquired AT Wild & Sons as well as its sister company, Wilds Plant Hire Limited.
03:37Our both commercial asset based lending provided the funding to support the deal, as well as
03:41funding to support the company's growth.
03:43Great news there.
03:44So yeah, exciting future.
03:45Yeah.
