00:00And our next guest, Dietrich Weiss of the New England Patriots, is brought to you by Shaw's
00:04and Star Market, perfecting the art of fresh. Dietrich Weiss, how are we doing this week?
00:09I'm doing wonderful. How are you doing? We're doing great. Now, it's been a while since we've
00:13talked to you, Dietrich. You had an injury there in the middle of this. We haven't talked to you
00:18in a while. But one thing you were starting to do is you were starting to ask us some questions in
00:23these interviews. So I wanted to give you the floor. Is there anything you want to ask us to
00:27get the interview rolling here this week? Yeah, let's go ahead and ask some questions. Usually,
00:35I do it at the end of the show, but since you put me on right now, I'm going to ask you.
00:41What is your fondest memory of this time of year growing up?
00:45Oh, Rich Keefe, why don't you start? Rich Keefe is a former football player. What do you have
00:49for fond memories of Thanksgiving? I think, honestly, it's a boring answer, but it's just
00:53watching football with the family, playing football outside, and then watching football
00:58and just eating as much food as possible. It's a simple answer, but yeah, I think back all the time
01:03on that. Yeah, I have a more nefarious memory. I like getting in there and stealing all the big
01:09drumsticks at Thanksgiving, and then everybody else getting all pissed off about it, which that's
01:12my favorite memory. Drumstick thief. Yeah, yeah, yeah. What about you? Taste testing all of the
01:19meals, spending time with family that I would see like once, twice a year, and hearing stories,
01:27family stories. Definitely. Do you have a favorite side? Is there anything maybe unique to your
01:35family? You said a favorite side? Yeah, like a Thanksgiving side, like whether it's stuffing,
01:43mac and cheese, whatever. Really, we like to—different people do different things
01:51depending on who house you go over or whatever the case is, but my father cooks or bakes
01:56a great sweet potato pie that will knock the sauce off of anybody who tastes it. So
02:04that's what I look for the most, and I'm trying to duplicate it as I grow older.
02:10Yeah, there you go. So Deidre, if I have this correct, you're a vegan, correct?
02:17Yes. So what are the challenges on a holiday like Thanksgiving as a vegan? What's your
02:22plate look like? Yeah, it can't look like ours is all I know, yeah. What I'll always say is
02:29I attack all the sides. So all the sides is what I usually have, but if I ever go over to
02:35anyone's house that's cooking food during this time of year, I just got to make sure it doesn't
02:41have any meat, like in the greens or any meat in the collard greens, and then anything that's
02:47cooked with dairy or eggs, that's pretty much that. So I have to make sure I either make my
02:57own food and bring it over or eat before I get there. Also, I was wondering, is there anybody
03:02else that has the same diet as you, or are you the only one that's like, hey, we got to make sure
03:07he has his special plate? Yeah, very similar. There's a guy on the team who is vegetarian,
03:15but other than that, it's just me. I'm just trying to be vegan. See, that's amazing. I show up with
03:20empty Tupperware, and I steal everybody else's food. You come with Tupperware jammed and ready
03:26to go. So that's the opposite way to attack it. It's Teachers Wise on a Patreon. It's Friday
03:30on a Wednesday here on Jones and Keefe. What should we be looking for out of the Colts and
03:36their offense this weekend? They've made their quarterback change again from Flacco to Anthony
03:40Richardson. What do you see out of them? Yeah, very fast guy, hard to get down, big, strong
03:48quarterback, can throw the ball really deep, makes great passes, and when he doesn't see what he
03:53wants to see, he takes off. You know, last time we saw you was in that Bears game where you had
03:59two sacks. You're up to five on the season, and I noticed a tremendous sack celebration. It looks
04:05like a little bit of a... what is that, Zorro? Where did you come up with that? I did it, I want
04:13to say, my rookie year against Buffalo when I sacked, I think it was Tyron Taylor. I kind of
04:19just did it randomly, and I liked it. So I just continued to do it here and there, and then these
04:26last two or three years, I decided to keep that as my number one celebration, and it's just
04:32pull the sword out, and I kind of fence with it, you know? So I either fence with it or I put it in
04:38the ground, and that's about it. So you may have answered my next question. I was going to say,
04:42is it kind of random? You're just kind of going with the feel, or is it kind of premeditated?
04:46Like, how have you come up with your celebrations in the past? You crowdsource them at all?
04:51Is it just kind of a feel thing? How do you do that? It's premeditated. I have my own meaning
04:59of what the sword means. I kind of just keep it to myself, but it's a pretty cool celebration
05:06that I made up, and then I kind of just stuck with it. So now I'm either going to pull it out,
05:11and I put it in the ground, or I pull it out, and I do a little fencing move with it,
05:16and then I kind of like...
05:18I kind of love it. Yeah, I think it's great, and I think if you keep doing it,
05:22then the next thing you know, they'll have to put it in Madden. It'll become like a staple.
05:26This is the Dietrich Weiss sacks celebration.
05:29Celebration, yeah. That'd be pretty cool.
05:32It does seem like it's going to take quite a bit to get Anthony Richardson down. Like,
05:36he's one of those guys where, you know, hit or miss as his play has been in some of his games,
05:41but just another in a long line of like really big quarterbacks that you guys end up facing.
05:49Yeah, one of the bigger quarterbacks in this age. Most guys we see now are very elusive,
05:55fast, small guys. He's one of the people that reminds me of an older, old school quarterback.
06:01Not saying this is, he is, but just in my past of playing football, I faced guys like
06:07Phillip Rivers or... What's the guy from the Phillips name?
06:12Roethlisberger. Yeah, Roethlisberger's huge.
06:15Those are big, big, big quarterbacks, hard to take down. Cam Newton's the hard guys to kind
06:20of like tackle because they're big and they're fast, things like that. So I faced against
06:26quarterbacks similar to this, and I saw some guys on the defense comparing him. Nah, not comparing
06:33his size to Josh Allen, a bigger quarterback. So just when you have guys like that, you have to
06:40make sure you wrap them up, like hug them either with their arms or hug their legs so they don't
06:46run the ball or throw the ball. All right. Well, he's Patriots defensive lineman Dietrich Wise.
06:50He joins us here on Patriots Friday on a Wednesday leading up to Patriots and Colts this weekend.
06:56Dietrich, happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Enjoy it. Best of luck on Sunday.
06:59We'll talk to you soon. Thank you. I have one question.
07:03Oh. I got to do my show question.
07:05Okay, great. I got to do that.
07:07All right. Did y'all ever play video games growing up?
07:11Yes. Yes. Not as much as Keith, but yes.
07:14A ton.
07:16Were y'all playing Madden? Were y'all playing Oregon Trail? Were y'all playing...
07:24Some Oregon Trail. I don't like that we're being dated, but yeah, some Oregon Trail mixed in there.
07:29I was a big Sega kid. Keith was more of a Nintendo guy.
07:32Nintendo, Sega, PS1.
07:33And then I graduated into, yeah, PS1, PS2, a lot of Madden. A lot of sports games.
07:37All of it.
07:38Yeah, yeah, yeah.
07:39Sports games. All sports games. So no fighter games or anything.
07:42Oh, no. I definitely played... Oh, yeah. Mortal Kombat. A lot of that. Probably
07:46Grand Theft Auto before I should have. A lot of games. Yeah.
07:52That was good. Yeah. I was definitely a big Mortal Kombat, Madden.
07:57And then Street Fighter. That was about it.
08:01Street Fighter. Another good one.
08:02Nice.
08:02I played a game. There was Eternal Champions for Sega. It was like a knockoff Mortal Kombat,
08:07but it was an incredible...
08:07Eternal Champions?
08:08Eternal. Eternal Champions.
08:10I was like, Ninja's Eternal Champions.
08:11Never really caught on, but it was a good one.
08:13Fantastic. Oh, yeah.
08:14All right. Well, keep your eye out for that, Dietrich.
08:17All right. I will. Have a good one.
08:19Thank you, you too. Have a great Thanksgiving.
08:20You as well. Happy Thanksgiving to Dietrich.
08:22Oregon Trail's an all-timer, though. I bet you could fire that up right now.
08:26I remember playing that at school.
08:27Yeah. Same.
08:28On the computers that were the size of this table.
08:30So five and a half inch floppy.
08:32Yeah. Oh, yeah.
08:32Put that in.
08:33I had to jam in the floppy disk.
08:35Yeah. They came out with an Oregon Trail board game, I want to say,
08:39in the last handful of years. It's kind of supposed to be a party game. Not great.
08:43Yeah. Not great.
08:44I just Googled Oregon Trail just for the fun of it,
08:46and there's an emulator on the first thing that you click on.
08:48Yeah. You can play it right now, probably.
08:50What do you mean, just for the fun of it? Meaning you're unaware of the game?
08:52Well, no. I know it, but I'm just seeing if you could actually...
08:54If you need to buy it or whatever.
08:55Oh, no. You can probably play it right now.
08:56Got it.
08:57The best would be you would sit there and you would enter in the names, right?
09:01Four or five people are going with you all the way to Oregon.
09:03And then as you're going, you're shooting Buffalo and whatever.
09:06And then all of a sudden, randomly, it'd be like,
09:07Oh, Jeff got bit by a snake.
09:09Yeah.
09:10And then your buddy would be like,
09:10Come on!
09:11Then you'd have any control over it.
09:12Right. Yeah.
09:13Come on! Why is that?
09:14Completely random, taken down by a rattlesnake.
09:16If you can forge the river, why not?
09:17Yeah.
09:19Forging the river is terrifying.
09:20I can make it. No. Yeah. It was real tough. Real tough.
09:22Yeah, but you could, though.
09:23But then you would just shoot...
09:24It was like just enough times where you're like,
09:25I'm going to make it through the river.
09:27But usually...
09:28Every game was, every day was the same.
09:29It was like, oh, time to hunt.
09:30You shoot all the Buffalo.
09:32Then you're like, you have too much meat.
09:34And they're like, you broke an axle.
09:35You can't drive.
09:36I'm like, should I hunt again?
09:37They're like, no, you can't.
09:39You can't hunt anymore.
09:40There's too much in there.
09:42What did you get sick with?
09:43Like cholera?
09:44Malaria.
09:44Typhoid?
09:45I don't remember what it was.
09:46What was it?
09:46What did you get sick with?
09:47Dysentery.
09:48Dysentery.
09:49There you go.
09:50Adam has dysentery.
09:51Yeah.
09:52I don't even say it.
09:53They pop up on the screen.
09:54That's all I say.
09:54Yeah.
09:54Everybody be like, gross.
09:56I'm like, throw him out.
09:57Throw him out.
09:57Get him out of there.
09:58He's contaminating the bison meat.
10:00Get the rest of the wagon sick.
10:01Yeah, I'm done.
10:02I'm not going to make it.
10:03You'd make it to Oregon with like one guy,
10:05barely hanging on, eating squirrels.
10:07What a game.
10:08At the end of the...
10:09What?
10:09You shoot squirrels too.
10:10What really?
10:11What?
10:11Could you?
10:12Yeah.
10:12There was...
10:12It was like Buffalo, squirrels, or maybe deer.
10:15Yeah.
10:16Squirrels, you're just like fire up.
10:17Cause you're like, I can shoot 20 of these.
10:19And I'm like, still be able to survive.
10:21Right.
10:22Even if you made it at the end, who even made it?
10:24And then what are you doing once you get there?
10:25No, you're like, great.
10:27Start all over again.
10:27Start a new civilization?
10:28No, not when you're the only one.
10:30No.
10:32You could try.
10:33A lot of alone time.
10:35It's fruitless.
10:36Yeah.
10:36It's true.
10:37Oh, good stuff from teacher twice.
10:38Yeah.
10:38Real good stuff.
10:40Multiple questions from him this week.
10:42Yeah.
10:42It's gotta be tricky though.
10:45I really put him on the spot there.
10:46To be a vegan.
10:47Oh, that's gotta be real tricky.
10:49Or it's his choice.
10:50He isn't.
10:50I don't think he has to be curious how long he's been a vegan.
10:52Uh, you know what I mean?
10:53So if like, is he at the point now where it's like, this is effortless.
10:55I can do this.
10:56Or if he's still failing, where he's learning, we can ask him this.
10:59When cam got here, I think cam converted a lot of people on the diet on the team.
11:04Yeah.
11:04That way.
11:05And maybe he, not to say that like everybody just followed cam.
11:07Maybe he had done this earlier in his career, but I think cam converted some people.
11:12When he was here, cause Cam Newton was definitely a vegan.
11:14Uh, so maybe he passed the Googling it.
11:17You know what I mean?
11:19Has he been practicing enough long enough?
11:20Is it that much of a lifestyle change where it's effortless man?
11:23Right.
11:23He's not like, Oh yeah, can I eat this?
11:25I just know I can't eat that.
11:27Right.
11:27There you go.
