00:00Welcome to Newswire. I'm Mike Blewett in for Craig Mish today.
00:07Excited to have you here on Sports Grid catching up with
00:09all the news as the show states. So, a lot of action
00:13obviously per usual and we recap last night's Monday night
00:18football matchup in the Har Bowl. Jim Harbaugh taking on
00:21John Harbaugh and the big brother John gets the victory
00:25going on the road and defeating Jim's Chargers. Really
00:28competitive game throughout but Lamar Jackson and the
00:33Ravens get it done. A lot of big explosive plays. Justice
00:37Hill, Derrick Henry, Lamar being Lamar and throwing a
00:42couple of key touchdown passes to Bateman and to Mark
00:45Andrews with a really spectacular catch in the end
00:49zone. Here's the comments from John Harbaugh on getting
00:53the victory on the road in LA. You kind of live these
00:56things close to your heart and these are just
01:02huge battles. Huge battles every week in this league and
01:05going against a team that's this well coached by all their
01:08coaches and by my brother Jim, best coach in the National
01:11Football League when he's done with that team and how hard
01:13they play and what they did. Hats off to them because
01:16they're going to win a lot more football games this year
01:18and they're going to be a major factor in the playoffs.
01:21So, this is a big win for our guys. I'm proud of our
01:24guys. I'm proud of the way they came out and and and
01:28responded, you know, after the first 10 points, we're
01:32down 10 to nothing and our guys step up. I think they
01:36had they had two field goals until the last drive on
01:38defense and our offense had five or six scoring drives
01:41right in a row there to make a difference. So, that's
01:44what I appreciate about our guys. They really don't
01:46flinch. They keep fighting. They got locked in on some
01:48details and they played really winning good winning
01:51football. So, proud of them for that. Now, we have a
01:53quick turnaround. We gotta get back about 630 in the
01:56morning and and get to work on a very good Eagles team.
02:00So, the Ravens pulled to eight victories. Just a half
02:04game behind the Steelers in the AFC North by way of them
02:07not having yet had their bye. Big matchups this week as
02:10the Steelers take on the Bengals and the Ravens will
02:14face the Philadelphia Eagles before their bye. So, John
02:18used to coach in Philadelphia. So, it'll be a homecoming
02:21of sorts for him playing the Eagles there in Baltimore
02:25but AFC North still yet to be decided. Those teams with
02:28eight wins. Steelers have the victory over the Ravens but
02:31they will play again later on this season. They firmly in
02:35the playoff mix. Are the Chargers still in the playoff
02:37mix? Clearly so even though they fall three games behind
02:40the Chiefs with this loss. Here's Jim Harbaugh commenting
02:43on the loss last week. We'll just we'll regroup and they
02:49played better football than we did tonight but more
02:55importantly, we know what kind of team we are and what
03:00we're capable of and regroup. Coach, is there any news on
03:04JK? No, I don't have any update. I know it's a knee.
03:09What did your brother tell you after the game when you
03:11guys met up? I always say the same thing. I congratulated
03:15him on the victory and
03:19then love you. Do you feel like he was maybe a little bit
03:25extra aggressive tonight with going for that fourth and
03:27one and then a two-point conversion trying to make it
03:29a two-score game. Did you see any extra aggressiveness
03:32out of him tonight? I thought they did a great job in
03:37third down and fourth downs, you know, without a doubt.
03:41I mean three for three on fourth down. They did a great
03:45job on third down as well over 50, 55%. So a big victory
03:51there for the Ravens. They've run for 212 yards. Derrick
03:54Henry 140 on the ground, Justice Hill an explosive 51
03:58yard touchdowns, a Flowers 62 yards receiving Mark Andrews
04:02and Peyton with those touchdowns. As I mentioned, JK
04:04Dobbins had to leave the game at some point. I think we'll
04:07be all be tracking his injury news for those of you playing
04:10in fantasy leagues and wondering what the Chargers
04:12Outlook looks like for the rest of the year. Dobbins had
04:15six carries for 40 yards. Lad McConkey six for 83.
04:21It's clear in watching the Chargers. They need a little
04:23bit more help from pass catchers. I'm sure that will
04:27be addressed long-term for Justin Herbert, but still a
04:30team very much in the playoff mix. We'll talk about the
04:33NFL in more detail with Jacob Kameker in about 25 minutes.
04:38So other NFL news, DeMarcus Robinson, little Rams receiver
04:43had caught a touchdown pass in Sunday Night Football. He
04:46was arrested for traveling more than 100 miles an hour
04:50on the US 101 northbound and suspected of being under the
04:55influence as well. So trouble ahead for DeMarcus Robinson.
04:59We'll see how the Rams and the NFL handle that. Secondarily
05:03Jamison Williams will not face charges after a
05:06review. He had an October 8th traffic stop in Wayne County
05:10in Michigan and all the Chargers, Chargers that were
05:15stemming from that traffic stop will be dropped as they
05:20have found no evidence of him violating any statutes or
05:23warrants. Patriots Jbreil Peppers, who has been on the
05:26commissioner's exempt list for some period of time for
05:30very serious charges, including strangulation and drug
05:34possession, was removed from that commissioner exempt
05:36list and it is up to the Patriots to decide what they
05:39want to do next with him. Does he become part of the
05:41active roster? It will not be impacted by league
05:45sanctioning from here forward. And a quote here, we
05:49understand the league's investigation into the matter
05:52will continue as will the legal process. We will await
05:54the outcome of both before making any further comment.
05:58So it sounds like the Patriots are going to take a
06:00wait-and-see approach. The jury trial is scheduled for
06:03January 22nd at a pretrial hearing in Quincy,
06:07Massachusetts. Moving on off the at a gridiron and on to
06:12the basketball court, huge games yesterday. There are
06:15over 60 college basketball games today. So there is a
06:18lot for you to watch and learn about teams early on in
06:22the season and plenty obviously to wager on. Auburn comes
06:26back in the second half to beat number four Auburn, has
06:30a huge second half comeback to beat number five Iowa
06:32State and hits a shot with a second left to grab the
06:35victory, 83 to 81. Memphis pulls off an upset of number
06:39two, UConn. They win 99-97 in overtime. They were winning
06:44this game by 10 points with three minutes left, blow the
06:46entire lead, then come back and get the victory in overtime.
06:50A massive win for Penny Hardaway and the Memphis Tigers.
06:53Dayton had an 18-point halftime lead over North Carolina
06:58and Carolina comes all the way back to win 92-90. Their
07:01second consecutive game in which they've come back from
07:0518 or more down. We'll have more on that from Hubert
07:08Davis a little bit later and Feastweek rolls on. Like I
07:11said, 60 games today, plenty more action. We've got some
07:15interesting windows a little bit later this week. Arkansas
07:19and Illinois take on each other in Kansas City after that
07:23Bears-Lions game. So CBS racking up huge, hoping to rack up
07:28huge ratings with that college basketball contest. A lot
07:30of NBA action. The NBA Cup rolls on tonight, five games.
07:34The Knicks blew out the Nuggets last night, 145 to 118.
07:38Brooklyn gets a victory in Golden State, 128 to 120 as 11
07:42and a half point underdogs. The Raptors move to 4-14 as
07:47the Pistons drop them 102-100. A Jaden Ivey buzzer beater,
07:52the deciding shot there and the Celtics hammer the Clippers
07:56126 to 94. Moving on back to the gridiron in the college
08:01side. Obviously the rankings are going to come out tonight.
08:03We'll talk with Bill Bender in just about three minutes on
08:07those topics, but big news just came right before this show
08:11started and North Carolina has decided to move on from
08:14Mack Brown. They play NC State this week. That will be his
08:18final game as North Carolina head coach. His second stint
08:21in Chapel Hill. He had a quote earlier and his statement is
08:26while this was not the perfect time and way in which I
08:28imagined going out, no time will ever be the perfect time.
08:32I've spent 16 seasons at North Carolina, will always cherish
08:35the memories and relationships Sally and I have built while
08:38serving as head coach. So he's obviously sad to be moving
08:42on, but North Carolina unfortunately blown out by Boston
08:46College on Saturday. That drops them to six and five on
08:51the season and three and four in conference. When we come
08:54back, like I said, we'll have Bill Bender from the Sporting
08:57News. We'll go over his top 14 and see what he thinks the
09:01rankings will look like. We've got some action tonight where
09:05Toledo is an eight and a half point road favorite in Akron
09:08with a total of 48. The Buffalo Bulls are 22 and a half point
09:12home favorites against Kent State.
