00:00Hey folks, I'm Andre, also known as Meddler.
00:02And I'm Paul, also known as Pabro.
00:04We're back with the final dev update of 2024.
00:06Today is November 8th.
00:08We just wanted to give you a warning.
00:09We will be talking about Arcane spoilers in our first section.
00:13So if you haven't finished the finale,
00:15skip to the time on the screen.
00:18Okay, spoiler disclaimer out of the way,
00:20let's take a moment to talk about Arcane.
00:22It's been such an amazing journey to watch the story play out.
00:24And like many of you, we're sad it's over.
00:27But don't worry,
00:28we do still have a few more things in store on the game side.
00:31When we got started on Season 1,
00:32we got to watch the champions in Arcane live out stories
00:34we'd already seen or knew a little bit of.
00:36Or in some cases, we got to really flesh out the backstory
00:39of some older champions.
00:40With Season 1, Caitlyn received a visual update
00:43to better align the game and the show.
00:45And for Season 2, we're doing something similar for Viktor.
00:48And tomorrow, you'll see his update hit PBE.
00:50We're not pulling a Gangplank and disabling him because he's dead.
00:54Well, hold on, I think you're onto something
00:55with killing Gangplank and other characters.
00:58Okay.
00:59Anyway, we wanted to better represent his evolved,
01:01powered-up form we saw on Arcane
01:03and the personality that goes along with it.
01:05Viktor's update is primarily focused on updating his visuals,
01:08audio, and backstory.
01:09We want to showcase the striking evolution and changes
01:11you just saw him go through in the show.
01:13So we're going to keep the gameplay you know and love
01:15with a slight change to his ultimate.
01:17The ult will still function largely the way it does now,
01:19but it'll get bigger with every kill until the ult is over.
01:23We wanted to mirror the feeling from Arcane
01:24where he manifests a massive, growing storm
01:27that consumes everything around him.
01:29We also updated all of Viktor's skins.
01:32We do want to point out that because of the updates
01:34to Prototype Viktor, his price will be increasing
01:37from 520 RP to 750 RP.
01:39So if you want to get him at the cheaper price,
01:41make sure you get it before his updates go live.
01:44All right, that's it for the Arcane spoilers.
01:46So right now, we'll hand things over to Stef and Chad
01:49to talk about Seasons.
01:51Hey, everyone, I'm Chad, aka McIver.
01:54I'm the Seasons Lead on League of Legends.
01:57And I'm Stef, aka 100-PieceNuggets,
01:59or the Cosmetics Lead.
02:01In the last dev update, Meddler and Pabbra mentioned
02:03we're introducing thematic seasons.
02:05So today, we're here to talk more about what a season is,
02:08what to expect with the theme,
02:10and what the experience is going to be like
02:11both on and off the rift.
02:13Over the years, we've fleshed out the world
02:15and regions of Runeterra,
02:16as well as various alternate universes
02:18like Star Guardian, High Noon, or Dark Star.
02:21We've highlighted these worlds and moments
02:23like summer events or narrative drops
02:26around champion releases.
02:27Now we want to take that immersion further
02:29with our new seasons.
02:30So next year, we're going to have three seasons,
02:32each around eight patches long,
02:34where we're going to follow champions
02:35around different regions of Runeterra.
02:38Each one is going to have its own theme,
02:39but we're going to have an overarching narrative
02:41that connects them throughout 2025.
02:43And each season's theme will be the anchor
02:45for most of the content going into the game as well.
02:48In the past, we've had these big releases
02:50like Swarm or Spirit of Hearthome.
02:52They're super memorable and fun,
02:54but they're also not connected
02:56to a larger integrated moment.
02:58And in seasons, we want everything
03:00to connect together.
03:01That means things like gameplay updates,
03:03modes, mini games, and champions
03:05will mainly have a strong tie
03:07to the season's theme.
03:09We'll have a bunch of skins
03:10that celebrate that seasonal theme,
03:12but we'll also continue to invest
03:14in a wide variety of skin lines
03:16that are unrelated to the season as well.
03:18So expect to see cosmetics
03:20celebrating Lunar Revel
03:22or things like Bees.
03:24Ultimately, our goal is to immerse you
03:26in the parts of the world that we're visiting
03:28from the moment you open the client
03:29to the moment you see the victory screen
03:31and everything in between.
03:33So enough tiptoeing around it.
03:35We know that you want to know
03:36what season one is.
03:37So for our first ever season,
03:40we are headed to the land of strength
03:42and domination, Noxus.
03:47Hey, everyone.
03:47I'm Riot Froxxon,
03:48Lead Gameplay Designer for League.
03:50And I'm Riot Oberon,
03:51Project Lead of the Summoner's Rift team.
03:53Next year, when you step onto the Rift,
03:55it'll look a little bit different
03:56than you're used to.
03:58We want seasons to be a way
03:59you can immerse yourself in League,
04:00especially once you load onto the Rift.
04:02So we have a preview of some of the updates
04:04you can expect in Season 1 of 2025.
04:07We're headed to everyone's favorite region
04:09of fierce fighters,
04:10cloak and dagger magic,
04:11and strength above all.
04:13Prepare to be...
04:17decimated!
04:19...
04:21Beyond the Noxian invasion of the map,
04:22we've also made some gameplay improvements
04:24and changes for next year.
04:26First, it wouldn't be a new season
04:28without an overhaul to the item system.
04:30Just kidding.
04:31But there are some Noxian-themed boot upgrades,
04:34but it's not as simple
04:35as picking them up from the shop.
04:37In fact, they come along with a new mechanic,
04:39Feats of Strength.
04:41There are three objectives
04:41that your team can claim throughout the game.
04:44First blood,
04:45first tower,
04:47and first three epic jungle monsters.
04:51If your team is the first to complete
04:52two of these three objectives,
04:53so for example,
04:54first blood and first tower,
04:56your Tier 2 boots will transform into new versions
04:59with slightly better stats.
05:00You'll also get access
05:01to powerful Noxious-themed boots,
05:03which you can purchase as a final upgrade.
05:06We want Feats of Strength
05:07to celebrate early game successes
05:09without immediately snowballing the game out of control.
05:12We're experimenting with different types
05:13of power progression
05:14to see how it feels for a reward in the early game
05:17to open up more choices in the late game.
05:19We're also introducing Nexus turret respawning.
05:22An incredibly frustrating experience
05:24is just winning a late game team fight
05:26only to lose your Nexus turrets.
05:27You kept the game alive,
05:28but at what cost?
05:31Now it feels like your team is doomed
05:32to hang around in your base for another 200 years,
05:35babysitting an open Nexus.
05:37To give your team a better chance
05:38at coming back from these situations,
05:40your Nexus turrets will now respawn
05:42after a set time once they're destroyed.
05:44Now your team can rally for an epic comeback
05:46without having to worry about a backdoor cast in.
05:50We're also adding some new minor runes
05:51to rebalance some of the vision-related options
05:53in the Domination tree.
05:55Sixth Sense.
05:58Grizzly Memento.
06:01And Deep Ward.
06:09As well as a new addition to the Sorcery tree
06:11called Axiom Arcanist,
06:12which makes ultimates more powerful.
06:14We also couldn't resist changing items
06:16just a little bit,
06:17so we're adding some small scope adjustments
06:18to tank items
06:19and adding a new item called Blood Letters Curse.
06:22Well, new-ish.
06:24It'll look familiar if you've spent time in Arena.
06:27But if you haven't,
06:28Blood Letters Curse reduces the target's magic resistance
06:30from repeated spell hits,
06:32which is sort of like an AP version of Black Cleaver.
06:35Finally, let's dig into the biggest update of the season,
06:38Adekan, Bringer of Ruin.
06:40The new epic jungle monster
06:42is drawn to death and destruction
06:43He will spawn only once at 20 minutes
06:45on either the top or bottom side of the map,
06:47whichever side has seen the most champion damage
06:49and kills by 14 minutes.
06:52To signal where he'll make his entrance,
06:54Adekan's arena will spawn,
06:56adding new permanent walls to that side of the map.
06:59Adekan's dark influence
07:00will also cause blood roses to grow
07:02periodically in the areas
07:03where champions have been killed.
07:05More death means more roses.
07:14Blood roses drop bloody petals for your entire team,
07:17which stack any number of times
07:18and last through the entire game.
07:20For each petal collected,
07:21your whole team gains a small experience and power boost,
07:24so if you see one, grab it.
07:27Adekan has two forms,
07:28Ruinous and Voracious.
07:31Higher action games spawn Ruinous Adekan,
07:34who you might want to fight up close and personal
07:36to avoid his constricting rings of damage,
07:38which creates the perfect chance for an ace and a steal.
07:42Killing Ruinous Adekan
07:43grants bloody petals to the team who kills him
07:46and spawns a grove of blood roses
07:48in the area for anyone to collect.
07:51Voracious Adekan spawns in lower action games.
07:54He does less damage to his enemies,
07:56but, as his name implies, is hungrier.
07:59As his health gets lower,
08:00he gets an increasingly more powerful drain ability
08:03based on missing health.
08:06The team who takes down Voracious Adekan
08:08gets a one-time rebirth buff,
08:10similar to Guardian Angel.
08:12So now you really have a reason to force that teamfight.
08:15We're introducing Adekan for a couple of reasons.
08:18First, unless you're T1,
08:19a 20-minute Baron is pretty tough to get,
08:21so we're moving Baron spawn back to 25 minutes
08:24and providing another mid-game macro option
08:26in the form of Adekan.
08:28Second, based on how Adekan plays out each game,
08:30we hope to see more different and interesting game states
08:33in both mid and late game.
08:35And we feel that designing an objective
08:37whose spawn location, form, and rewards
08:39are decided by how you play
08:41should make each game of League feel more varied.
08:44Our goal is for every gameplay change
08:45to make League better.
08:47As we move to Seasons, this remains the same,
08:50so these changes were designed for the long term.
08:52That said, we'll keep an eye on how they're landing
08:55and make adjustments if needed.
08:57But for now, Adekan and all the other updates
08:59are here to stay for good.
09:01We can't wait to see how these go
09:02as you start your climbs next year.
09:04As part of building Seasons,
09:06we took a look at how rewards
09:07would be part of the overall seasonal experience.
09:10That led us to updating our reward systems.
09:12That means things like Event Passes,
09:14Champion Mastery, Honor Rewards, etc.
09:17We felt that this was a great time
09:19to address some problems that have built up.
09:21We're going to dive into those details,
09:23so bear with us.
09:24First, over the years,
09:25these systems have become needlessly complex.
09:28With an excessive number of currencies,
09:30unnecessary steps to craft and claim rewards,
09:32overlapping loot types, we could go on.
09:34I mean, given some key fragments
09:35that you have to then craft into a key
09:37that you pair with a chest,
09:38that you open up to get another key
09:40and a chest and some essence,
09:41that you open up to get a skin shard,
09:42that you pair with some orange essence
09:43or reroll to eventually get a random skin.
09:45That's at a level of unnecessary complexity going on.
09:48Secondly, those systems are all scattered
09:50throughout the client.
09:51What you can earn,
09:52how and where you can track it, etc., sucks.
09:55And third, events and the rewards
09:57being only sometimes available
09:58make some moments less rewarding to play League.
10:01So, here are some of the changes we're making.
10:03There will always be a Battle Pass active
10:05with both a free and a paid track,
10:07with the price the same as an Event Pass today.
10:09You'll get Pass rewards through the tracks,
10:11meaning we're removing the Event Tokens and Shop.
10:14There will be two Passes per season
10:16with them tying into each season's thematic.
10:19That means most of the rewards
10:20will reflect what's going on in and around the game
10:23and fewer random rewards.
10:25We'll have the same number of Passes per year at six
10:28with a longer average duration per Pass.
10:30We're also moving most of our scattered reward systems
10:33to the free track of those Battle Passes.
10:35So, most rewards will now be in one place,
10:37with systems like Honor and Champion Mastery
10:39feeding into the Pass.
10:41For example, having a high Honor level
10:43will give bonus to Pass experience earned.
10:45You can earn 12 skins per year with the free Pass.
10:48Half of these skins will be themed
10:50to the season you unlock them in.
10:52We'll also be simplifying the loot and crafting system.
10:55Orbs will always be available,
10:56so Masterwork Chests, for example,
10:58will get phased out since they serve such a similar purpose.
11:02Overall, we want the Pass to be the core vessel
11:05for how you track and earn rewards.
11:06If you choose to buy the paid version,
11:08we also want it to be very clear
11:10what you're getting and how to make the most of it.
11:13Now, these elements have a ton of moving parts to them.
11:15There's a lot more details
11:16than what we've talked about just here.
11:18We'll cover that all in the dev blog that's out right now.
11:21Switching gears a bit,
11:22I want to talk about another change for next year
11:24that isn't quite tied to Seasons,
11:26but instead, by feedback from all of you.
11:28Ranked Resets.
11:30These have been a topic of a lot of conversation
11:32in recent years,
11:33particularly when it comes to feelings
11:34around how often you want to restart your climbs,
11:36how fast a climb should be,
11:37what feels rewarding versus what feels like a grind, etc.
11:41And looking back,
11:42we don't think Tour Resets a year
11:43has been the right call for League.
11:45So, we're moving to six per year.
11:50Okay, just kidding.
11:51Please, put down the pitchforks.
11:53We're going back to one large Reset
11:54at the start of each year
11:55with no additional Resets during the year.
11:58Ranked System Tuning,
11:59in terms of the size of the January Reset,
12:01the number of the games to climb on average,
12:04and other systems,
12:04will be similar to the numbers we used
12:07back in 2022 and before.
12:09That said, there will still be
12:11three victorious skins you can earn,
12:13one for each Season.
12:14If you want to earn each skin,
12:16you will need to win 15 Ranked Games
12:18during that Season.
12:19Again, though,
12:20neither your Visible Rank nor your MMR
12:22will reset except in January.
12:25Next up, we want to chat about
12:26a potential replacement for Quick Play
12:28that we'll be trying in some regions.
12:30It's called Swift Play,
12:31and it's meant to be a lower-stakes experience
12:33than Summoner's Rift,
12:34though with more strategic elements
12:36than you'd find in, for example, ARAM.
12:38You'll still have the same core elements
12:40that you'd expect to find in a game
12:41of Summoner's Rift,
12:42you know, farming, snowballing,
12:43teamfighting for objectives, etc.,
12:45but with added changes
12:47to keep all players more competitive,
12:48like ramping gold and XP as the game goes on.
12:52Those changes won't make it
12:53so you can suddenly jump ahead of your opponent
12:54if you're 0-10,
12:56but they will make it so that even if you're down,
12:57you're never completely out of the game.
13:00The fact that Swift Play is also less punishing
13:03when behind should also make the mode ideal
13:05for those of you looking to play with friends
13:07you wouldn't be willing to put your LP on the line for.
13:10As mentioned, Swift Play will be rolling out
13:12in January to replace Quick Play
13:14in select regions,
13:15so we hope you'll give it a try
13:17and let us know what you think
13:18when it hits live.
13:19We also have a blog dropping today
13:21with more details,
13:22so be sure to check that out.
13:24And last, but hopefully not least,
13:26we've got some changes
13:27coming to the practice tool.
13:28Over the years,
13:29you've told us that it's a useful
13:30but somewhat limited way
13:32to get better at League.
13:33The most common desire
13:34we've seen people bring up
13:36is to practice with other players,
13:37whether it's in one-on-one duels with a friend
13:39or on a full team fight drill
13:41with a pre-made team.
13:42Practice tool wasn't built
13:43with multiplayer in mind,
13:45and we've had some cautions
13:46about how League could be a lot less fun
13:48if the optimal way to get better
13:50is to spend almost all your time in practice tool
13:52rather than playing real games.
13:54But we do think
13:54we've likely been too cautious here,
13:56so we're going to be giving
13:57multiplayer practice tool a try.
13:59You should see that on the PBE soon.
14:01It's an experimental feature,
14:02and we'll probably encounter
14:03an interesting range of bugs.
14:05That said, though,
14:06we're looking into whether we can ship it
14:07as part of season start in January.
14:10And if that's not on track,
14:11we'll give you an update
14:12as to where it's up to.
14:13Before we wrap up,
14:15one last seasons thing.
14:16We'll be changing up
14:17how we name patches to match seasons.
14:19So instead of patch 15.1
14:21coming out in January,
14:23it'll be patch 25.s1.1,
14:26calling out the year, season,
14:28and patch number.
14:29Season 2 will then kick off
14:30in patch 25.s2.1.
14:33You get the idea.
14:34Okay, that is it from us today.
14:36The next time you hear from us
14:38will be in January,
14:38at the start of the season.
14:40We'll be back then
14:41to share some extra stuff
14:42that'll come out later in season 1.
14:43We do want to acknowledge, though,
14:45that we've covered most of the big changes
14:46that you'll see day one next year.
14:49That said, still got a few surprises left.
14:51And of course,
14:52we'll have the cinematic to kick things off.
14:54To no one's surprise,
14:55we can confirm that it's also going to focus
14:58on Noxus and Noxian champions.
15:00But that's all we can share for now.
15:02We hope you all have a great December,
15:04great holiday season,
15:05and a happy new year.
15:06Thanks so much for everything,
15:07and we'll talk to you again soon.
15:09Bye.
