Indian Film Director Subhash Ghai talked about his film that completed 25 years of ‘Taal’ which is one of the best and most iconic films. After that, he shared his experiences and his contribution to film education with Whistling Woods International. Recently, Subhash Ghai launched his memoir 'Karma's Child: The Story of Indian Cinema's Ultimate Showman' at IFFI.

00:00In Goa, they have given us an opportunity to perform the Taal, and to show this film to the international delegates that why there are musical films in India and how they are made.
00:27So, they have chosen this Taal film to be shown to all national and international delegates in this festival, and to honour this film which is celebrating its 25th anniversary and has become a musical iconic film.
00:46You all know the Taal, its music, its performances.
00:52We will do a screening of this film tomorrow, and then I will talk to the audience and answer their questions.

01:23I have worked with many senior directors, colleagues and newcomers.
01:33My colleagues were Shatrughan Sinha, Shammi Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar and Dilip Kumar.
01:43I have learnt a lot from them.
01:45After that, I dared to work with newcomers and new talents.
01:53I wanted to give them a contribution to make their careers and talents shine.
01:59There were many people like Meenakshi Shashadri, Madhuri Dixit, Mahima, Manisha Koirala, Kareena, Aishwarya Rai, Katrina.
02:09There were many more people.
02:12Among the boys, there were Jaikishor Rao, Shahrukh Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Anil Kapoor, Akshay Khanna.
02:20All these were new to me.
02:24I tried to bring their talent to the fore through my films.
02:28I have worked with many actors from Kali Charan to Karz, Karma, Vedata, Ram Lakhan, Saudagar, Khalnayak, Pardes, Taal and many more.
02:41I have worked with actors from all walks of life.
02:45I have worked with senior directors, colleagues and newcomers.
02:52I am happy that I was able to contribute to their lives with my work.
03:01I was able to give them value.
03:03I consider myself lucky.
03:11When I introduced many newcomers to me, heroes and heroines,
03:16many kids from all walks of life came to me in the 90s.
03:21They told me that I am a director and producer who gives a chance to newcomers and also teaches them.
03:27Then I thought that whatever I have earned in experience, money and reputation,
03:32I should open a film school in Bombay.
03:36Because there was no film school in Bombay.
03:38There was no creative school that teaches technology, commerce and art in filmmaking.
03:49That is why I named it Whistling Woods.
03:52By the grace of God, Whistling Woods is in the top 10 in the world.
03:57Today we have 1100 students studying in it.
04:00We have 7 schools.
04:023500 alumni are already working in the film industry.
04:05They are at a good position.
04:08I am happy that I was able to contribute to the next generation.
04:15I want to give them what I have earned.
04:19That is why I consider myself lucky.
