00:00The man, often known as the Godfather of AI, is now worried about the dangers it poses.
00:09More than a decade ago, Geoffrey Hinton, along with two graduate students from the University of Toronto,
00:14developed a technology which became the foundation of artificial intelligence.
00:19In 2023, he told the New York Times that a part of him regrets his life's work.
00:25There were three things he was worried about.
00:27First, he was unsure how the technology could be stopped from falling into bad hands and used for bad things.
00:34While Hinton hadn't signed either of the two letters warning of risks AI pose to society and humanity,
00:41he did say he resigned from his more than a decade-long career at Google
00:45to be able to speak freely about these risks.
00:48The technology Hinton created back in 2012 was instrumental in developing popular chatbots like ChatGPT and BART.
01:00He now feared that this artificial intelligence could soon become superior to human intelligence in some ways.
01:13Killer robots could become reality, was how he put it.
01:16Hinton's second worry was that if this technology were to become even more popular,
01:21the internet would be flooded with AI-generated photos, text and videos.
01:26He said people would not be able to know what was true anymore.
01:39Hinton's third concern was about the job market.
01:42With chatbots being able to help in simple tasks,
01:46he said they could also possibly replace paralegals, personal assistants, translators and others.
01:51It takes away the drudge work, he said, and warned it could possibly take away more.
