00:07Interestingly, all the top 10 dirtiest cities were in West Bengal.
00:11These were the findings of the Swachh Sarvekshan Survey or the Cleanliness Survey.
00:15The survey, which began in 2016, happened annually under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
00:21It had different themes every year and the theme in 2023 was Waste to Wealth.
00:26The cities and states were judged on 46 indicators.
00:30These included door-to-door waste collection, Divyang-friendly toilets,
00:35cleanliness in neighborhoods, segregation of waste, and spitting in commercial or residential areas.
00:41While more than 4,500 assessors conducted the survey in 4,416 cities,
00:47citizens could also participate by answering questions on government websites and apps
00:51and voting for their cities.
00:53The cities were divided into those with more than 1 lakh population and less than 1 lakh population.
00:58This was the order of the 10 dirtiest cities with more than 1 lakh population.
01:23As for the cleanest cities, there was a tie between Madhya Pradesh's Indore
01:31and Gujarat's Surat this year, and Maharashtra turned out to be the cleanest state.
