00:00A 29-year-old woman's body was found chopped into pieces and stored in the refrigerator
00:05of her own apartment in Bengaluru.
00:13No one knew about the crime that happened in the apartment, until the neighbours became
00:16suspicious.
00:17Here's what we know so far.
00:25Mahalakshmi Das from Nepal was living alone on the first floor of her rented apartment
00:29in Bengaluru.
00:39She was married to Hemant Das, who owned a mobile store, but they were living separately
00:44and their 4-year-old daughter was living with her father.
01:01Mahalakshmi used to work at a clothing store in a mall.
01:04Her neighbours said a foul smell had been coming from her apartment for a few days.
01:08Initially they thought it was coming from rotten food, but they became suspicious when
01:12the foul smell eventually got stronger.
01:15On 20th September 2024, one of her neighbours called her family, complaining about the foul
01:19smell.
01:20Mahalakshmi's mother said she was informed about it around 7.30 pm in the evening, and
01:25they decided to visit her apartment the next day.
01:31On 21st September 2024, when Mahalakshmi's family reached the apartment, it was locked
01:36from outside.
01:37They then opened the door with spare key.
01:40Her mother said the apartment looked messy, with clothes, slippers and bags scattered
01:44in the living room.
01:45She added that there were some maggots near the refrigerator and it looked as if there
01:48were bloodstains as well.
01:50When they opened the refrigerator, they were devastated to find Mahalakshmi's body chopped
01:55into over 50 pieces.
01:56The police were then alerted about the incident.
01:59Her mother recalled the last conversation with Mahalakshmi over the phone, where the
02:02latter said that she would visit her husband soon.
02:05Hours after the murder was reported, four special teams were formed to investigate the
02:09matter.
02:10The police suspected that the body might have been cut into pieces somewhere else, as there
02:14were no bloodstains found at the apartment apart from the ones near the fridge.
02:18Bengaluru police registered an FIR under Section 1031 of the Bharatiya Naya Sanhita for the
02:24murder.
02:25We are investigating the case from all angles and more or less the culprit who is the French
02:33suspect who is likely to have committed this ghastly offence, he is identified, only thing
02:40is we are yet to apprehend him, in the sense we have not yet caught him, so as and when
02:46the person is caught and further his interrogation is done, then we will be able to provide further
02:52details regarding the case.
02:53In 2022, India reported over 28,000 murder cases across the country, out of which over
02:598,000 were women.
03:01In the Bengaluru murder case, several suspects had been detained.
03:05Mahalakshmi's husband alleged that she was having an affair and her lover might be involved
03:10in the murder.
03:11Although it wasn't confirmed who committed the crime, the investigation was still underway
03:15as of publishing this story.
03:16I already told that the prime suspect has already been identified, we have to physically
03:24arrest him, only then we will know further details, at this stage if I tell anything
03:28it will be to the benefit of the accused, not to the public, so I restrain from giving
03:33any further details.
03:34Is he from Bangalore or outside?
03:35He is an outsider.
