00:00We were privileged to leave on the moon a plaque saying,
00:09For All Mankind.
00:31The first man to set foot on the moon, Neil Armstrong.
00:36We were privileged to leave on the moon a plaque
00:44endorsed by you, Mr. President,
00:48saying,
00:51For All Mankind.
00:56You too took a trip.
00:59You pointed out around the world
01:03and carried that message
01:06to all mankind.
01:12Perhaps, in the third millennium,
01:16a wayward stranger will read that plaque at Tranquility Base.
01:22Let history mark
01:26that this was the age
01:29in which that became a fact.
01:32I was struck this morning in New York by a proudly waved but
01:37uncarefully scribbled sign.
01:43It said,
01:45Through you, we touched the moon.
01:48Through you, we touched the moon.
01:51Through you, we touched the moon.
01:54It was our privilege
01:57today
01:59across the country
02:02to touch America.
02:08I suspect
02:11that
02:15perhaps
02:16the most warm, genuine
02:20feeling that all of us could receive
02:24came through the cheers
02:27and shouts and most of all the smiles
02:30of our fellow Americans.
02:33We hope
02:35and think
02:37that those people shared our belief
02:43that this is the beginning
02:46of a new era.
02:48The beginning of an era
02:51when man understands the universe around him.
02:54And the beginning of the era
02:57when man understands himself.
