00:00Hi, I'm Hamna from Brute.
00:02I wanted to know, does India see itself as the leader of the Global South and how did
00:07it assume this role?
00:08The fact is that the countries of the Global South are in deep economic distress and that
00:14distress has not, in our view, been fully recognised till now.
01:14Three-fourths of humanity lives in our countries.
01:32We should also have an equivalent voice.
01:45Most of the global challenges have not been created by the Global South.
02:13Hi I'm Hamna from Brute.
02:15I wanted to know, does India see itself as the leader of the Global South and how did
02:20it assume this role?
02:21Because there has been a lot of conversation about bringing the Global South together.
02:24What India has tried to do, beginning with our presidency, was to seek to ensure that
02:33the concerns of the Global South constitute the core agenda of the G20 deliberations.
02:45Because after three years of pandemic, after economic disruptions of various kinds, after
02:52the impact of the Ukraine conflict, after climate events, the fact is that the countries
03:00of the Global South are in deep economic distress and that distress has not, in our
03:07view, been fully recognised till now.
03:11And we therefore very consciously started off with the voice of the Global South Summit.
03:18But again, I emphasise, the voice was of the summit.
03:21It was the voice of 125 countries who participated in that summit.
03:27But we, as the G20 presidency, we saw it as our responsibility of distilling the views
03:35which were expressed in that summit and putting it before the rest of the G20.
03:41And we can take a lot of satisfaction that many of the issues that the Finance Minister
03:47highlighted, which Sharpa highlighted, these are truly Global South issues.
03:53And we hope that certainly the Delhi Summit and the deliberations which will take place
03:58today and tomorrow would give strong guidance to take them forward.
