Two F-16 fighter jets caused a sonic boom while attempting to intercept an unresponsive aircraft.
Transcript
00:00This sonic boom echoed over Fairfax County, Virginia after two fighter jets broke the sound barrier in pursuit of an unresponsive aircraft.
00:14The F-16s reached supersonic speeds while trying to intercept the private plane, which was being commanded by an unresponsive pilot.
00:22The private aircraft ultimately crashed near the George Washington National Forest, killing all four people on board.
00:28According to some first responders, the crash also left a crater in the ground and there was hardly any wreckage left behind.
00:35The plane departed from Tennessee and was headed toward New York.
00:38For reasons unknown, once the plane reached Long Island, it turned around and headed straight for Washington, D.C.
00:44Once the private aircraft entered restricted airspace, the military commanded the F-16s to intercept it.
00:51At this time, it is not known why the pilot of the small aircraft was unresponsive or why the plane crashed.
