00:00Ed Sheeran has announced the fifth and final entry in his series of albums named after

00:04mathematical symbols. In a written diary entry, Sheeran revealed the series of recent events that

00:09heavily informed Subtract, an acoustic album that he has been working on for a decade.

00:13At the start of 2022, Sheeran's wife Cherry Seaborn was diagnosed with a tumor while she

00:18was pregnant with their second child with no route to treatment. Around the same time,

00:22his close friend and music entrepreneur Jamal Edwards died unexpectedly. Edwards' platform SBTV

00:27helped launch Sheeran's career, and later Sheeran found himself involved in a plagiarism lawsuit

00:32over his song Shape of You, though he eventually won in April 2022.

00:36Quote, I was spiraling through fear, depression, and anxiety, Sheeran wrote. For the first time,

00:40I'm not trying to craft an album people will like. I'm merely putting something out that's

00:44honest and true to where I am in my adult life. Subtract is set to be released on May 5th.
