A new investigation exposed the poor working conditions within Shein factories.
Transcript
00:00Xi'an has long been the center of controversy regarding labor law violations at their Chinese
00:04facilities, but we need to talk about a new investigation that reveals the working conditions
00:08are even worse than many imagine.
00:10UK broadcaster Channel 4 sent an undercover worker to film inside two Chinese factories
00:15that supply clothes to the fast fashion company.
00:18It was reported that employees were working up to 18 hour days with only one day off per
00:22month.
00:23With such little time available outside of work, some workers reported regularly washing
00:26their hair on their lunch breaks.
00:28Workers receive a base salary equivalent to roughly $550 per month, however, with the
00:33expectation to make 500 pieces of clothing per day, they receive equivalent of 4 cents
00:37per item.
00:38In one factory, workers were penalized two-thirds of their daily wage if they made a mistake
00:42on a clothing item.
00:43Xi'an has had its fair share of wrongdoings.
00:46These include previously reported poor working conditions, toxic chemicals in its clothing,
00:50stealing designs, and leaking customer data.
00:52However, its low prices and high volumes has kept it one of the biggest fast fashion companies
00:56in the world.
