00:00To all you tabloids out there, you have been with my life since I was 13 years old.
00:06Drew Barrymore is hitting back at tabloids that reported she wished her mother was dead.
00:10The actress was recently profiled in Vulture, during which she discussed her complex relationship
00:15with her mother, Jade Barrymore, whom she emancipated herself from when she was 14 years
00:19old. Quote, all their moms are gone and my mom's not, Drew told Vulture. And I'm like, well,
00:23I don't have that luxury, but I cannot wait. I don't want to live in a state where I wish
00:27someone to be gone sooner than they're meant to be so I can grow. I actually want her to
00:31be happy and thrive and be healthy, but I have to grow in spite of her being on this planet.
00:35However, some media outlets took her quote to mean that she wished her mother was dead.
00:39I have never said that I wish my mother was dead. How dare you put those words in my mouth?
00:45I have been vulnerable and tried to figure out a very difficult, painful relationship
00:52while admitting it is difficult to do while a parent is alive. And that for those of us
00:59who have to figure that out in real time, cannot wait as in they cannot wait for the time,
01:05not that the parent is dead. In the same Vulture article, Barrymore clarified her statement saying,
01:10quote, I dared to say it and I didn't feel good. I do care. I'll never not care. I don't know if
01:15I'll ever know how to fully guard, close off, not feel, build the wall up. Don't twist my words
01:20around or ever say that I wish my mother was dead. I have never said that. I never would.
