The experiment shows how droughts lead to flash floods. #climate #drought #flood #news
Transcript
00:00A meteorologist conducted an experiment to explain how droughts can lead to flash floods.
00:10You can see the wet grass soak up the water quickly while the dried out grass has barely drained.
00:16Dr. Robert Thompson, who conducted the experiment, says this happens because the dried out soil repels the water instead of absorbing it.
00:24This causes rain to puddle on top of the soil, which leads to a greater risk of flash floods.
00:30In July and August alone, at least 41 people have died in unprecedented flash floods throughout the U.S.
00:40I think we can say now, this is very slowly going down. I don't think I should leave that any longer.
00:48Let's just empty it out. Leave it in a puddle.
00:53Hang on it. It's just a puddle.
