1,000-year-old teenage mummy found in Peru

A 1,000-year-old teenage mummy was uncovered in Peru.

00:00Archaeologists in Peru unearthed a roughly 1,000-year-old teenage mummy.

00:05The body was found wrapped in an underground tomb and is estimated to have been 12 or 13

00:09years old when they died.

00:11Experts said it was in a good state of preservation with some pieces of skin intact.

00:15And though the head was found separate from the body, it still had some hair and teeth.

00:20Near the body was a collection of ceramics believed to be of the Ichma civilization,

00:24which predates the Incas.

00:27Archaeologists have uncovered troves of artifacts at the site in recent years, including several

00:31other mummies, and believe the area was a busy city home to thousands of people.
