00:00Will you go to Belgaum to see what is happening over there?
00:03Network is being shut down for three to four days over there.
00:07See, I have been in the habit of going to places where trouble is there.
00:13In a situation like this, where the issue is very sensitive,
00:17I should think twice every step that I take.
00:21Whenever it is required, I'll meet the place,
00:23but I'm monitoring, I'm getting information from the field,
00:26through the police room, information with intelligence agencies.
00:29I'm making my own assessment. If my presence is required, I'll be there.
00:33Do you think government should take more effective or positive action
00:37against the violation which is happening over Belgaum?
00:41Such instances should not happen.
00:45Once it happens, the immediate thing is to stem it at the earliest.
00:49And government should take, not only government, all stakeholders,
00:52the government, the political parties, the silent majority of the media,
00:56everybody should come together and act together
00:59to see that violence does not flourish in this holy land.
01:02You have been two years in Bengal.
01:04So what are the perspectives you have gathered in these years,
01:08about politics, about Bengal itself,
01:12and as you have worked as the constitutional head,
01:15what is your experience in these three years?
01:19Bengal is a great land.
01:23People of Bengal are very cultured, excellent.
01:27Politics is bad.
01:30Why? Why do you think so?
01:32That is for the politicians to think and analyze.
01:36And your perception about that has not been changed in these three years?
01:39My perception has been solidified.
01:43Because, you know, as it is said,
01:46politics is the last refuge of a scoundrel.
01:48I did not know what it means. Now I know what it means.
01:51But that has to change. The people of Bengal are enlightened.
01:55They will not allow this kind of things to stay in politics.
01:58I am sure that politics also will revive.
02:01There will be a renaissance in politics also.
02:03It is required. It will be done.
02:05Because the two aspects which are a cancer on the body,
02:09politics of Bengal, are violence and corruption.
02:12These two things are to be contained by political action,
02:15but these are now encouraged by political action.
02:17Therefore, this road has to go.
02:19You are the constitutional head.
02:20You have visited so many areas when the violence happens.
02:24So what do you think, the politicians are not that much capable to abolish that,
02:29or, you know, demolish that thing in politics?
02:33I cannot run down all the politicians.
02:37As a former bureaucrat, I am very clear,
02:41it is a boundary duty of the government,
02:43the contemporary government of the times,
02:45to stem violence and corruption.
02:49If the government does not do that,
02:51irrespective of its political complexion,
02:54that government has failed in its duty.
02:56And there are constitutional remedies to be undertaken,
02:59which as governor, I will do it.
03:00Do you think that the ruling party is continuously promoting the violence in the politics?
03:06I am not attributing anything to any particular political party.
03:10It is a fact before us,
03:13violence is on the increase, corruption is on the increase.
03:16And who are the persons who can do that?
03:18See, the question before the people is,
03:20who is here to guard the guardians and custodians?
03:24That should go.
03:25Government has to do its duty.
03:27Bengal expects everyone to do its duty.
03:28Government has more of a responsibility.
03:31Government has a boundary duty to protect the lives and property of its citizens.
03:34If government does not do that, it means failure.
03:37Will you go to Belgaum to see what is happening over there?
03:40Network is being shut down for three to four days over there.
03:44See, I...
03:46I have been in the habit of going to places where trouble is there.

04:10Do you think government should take more, you know,
04:13effective or positive action against the violation which is happening over Belgaum?
