00:00After its first try was met with some nasty pushback, the second trailer for a Minecraft
00:05movie seems to be aiming to do a full teardown and rebuild.
00:09This is the very first thing viewers see in the trailer.
00:11"...Minecraft trailer, take two."
00:14Sure, this may just be a reference to this being the second go at giving fans a look
00:17at the film adaptation of the video game phenomenon, but usually when you do a second take, it
00:22means there wasn't something you didn't quite nail the first time around.
00:26So was Warner Bros. trying to attempt a sort of redo with this trailer?
00:29Let's be totally clear.
00:31The first trailer for the film, which is helmed by Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess and
00:35stars Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Jennifer Coolidge, Matt Berry, and Steve Carell, did anything
00:41but nail it.
00:42"...This place makes no sense."
00:43"...Don't I know it?"
00:45Fans quite frankly savaged the first trailer for a Minecraft movie, saying it was not giving
00:50the people who worked their pickaxes to the bone in the game what they wanted.
00:53One user on ex-formerly Twitter compared it to the Adam Sandler video game-themed comedy
00:58Pixels, which was definitely not meant as a compliment.
01:01Then someone else replied with a knockout punch,
01:03"...Pixels looking like a masterpiece compared to this."
01:06Another ex-user put it all out there, writing,
01:08"...Anyone could have guessed this, but this is very clearly a movie worked on by people
01:13whose kids play Minecraft and not by anybody who actually plays Minecraft."
01:17Some even refer to the movie that first trailer presented as an abomination, with lots of
01:22comparisons to the recent Jumanji films, which also star Jack Black.
01:26"...Yikes.
01:27Anything you can do to draw attention, like a little nibble like this, a nibble goes a
01:31long way, girlfriend."
01:33So the second trailer had a lot of work to do to get fans back on board with a Minecraft
01:38movie.
01:39And it does seem to have worked, at least for some vocal commenters.
01:42For example, the top YouTube comment states,
01:44"...This one is definitely a better trailer than the first."
01:47Another commenter clocked their take two of it all, writing,
01:50"...I like how they said take two, as if the first trailer was a bad one and they needed
01:54to make another take of it."
01:55But a few other commenters said they were happy about the decision to use the original
01:59Minecraft theme by C418 as a way to show off the bonafides to longtime fans.
02:05But at least one noted that it was weird that the music was remixed in a stereotypical thumping
02:09movie trailer style.
02:11One other key line in the new A Minecraft Movie trailer definitely seemed to strike
02:15a chord with fans.
02:16Pretty much right after the take two at the very beginning, Jack Black's character, Steve,
02:20says,
02:21"...As a child, I yearned for the mines."
02:24That's not something children in our world typically do, at least.
02:27Or at least, that's not what someone who isn't plugged into the Minecraft fandom would think.
02:31Fans clocked that the line is an overt reference to a 2022 tweet that joked,
02:36"...Minecraft proves that abolishing child labor was a mistake.
02:39The children yearn for the mines."
02:41That tweet became a meme among Minecraft fans, and even became a point of reference as state
02:46legislators passed laws allowing younger children to work in some parts of the U.S.
02:51Someone even replied to that tweet a full two years later to let the original poster
02:55know,
02:56"...This tweet has now led to a plot point in the new Minecraft movie."
02:59Some YouTube commenters clearly got the reference, others didn't quite see what it was getting
03:03at.
03:04Either way, it definitely seems like the second attempt to rope fans in to see a Minecraft
03:08movie worked better than the first.
03:10The film opens on April 4th, 2025.
