Carrington, Manchester, UK

00:00The recruitment at Manchester United in the last decade has been quite mixed.
00:06To say the least, it's been very much like that.
00:08Do you expect to have an influence on the players that come into this football club
00:13or will that be left to other departments?
00:15I think it has to be all together.
00:18Because if you are a coach that came in here and already chose the players,
00:24it could be wrong.
00:25Because this is a football club that will be here for a long time.
00:29And you as a coach, you don't know that.
00:31So you have to work everybody together.
00:35And for that, we have to improve the process of recruitment.
00:38The data, the profile of the players that we want.
00:43But I have to have a strong position on that because I'm the coach.
00:48I know how to play.
00:50So I think it's all together.
00:52But in the final word, as you can say, it should be the manager.
00:56Not just because it's your right, but it is your responsibility.
01:00Because in the end, the results, they will ask you about the results, is to me.
01:06So I think it's all together, improve the process of recruitment.
01:10I have to understand the league.
01:14That is important.
01:16And then when everything is aligned, all the ideas, everybody's on the same page,
01:21we can buy and sell players.
01:23Has that been agreed then, that you have the final sign-off?
01:28I'm saying here the final.
01:30It's not the final, the final.
01:33But I have a great responsibility when we choose players.
01:36Because this is something that should be done in this way.
01:41I'm the manager, the head coach.
01:43So I have to choose the players.
