00:00Rich Fay here from Manchester World. We've just been at Ruben Amorim's first
00:04press conference since being appointed the new head coach of Manchester United.
00:10The Portuguese coach was in fine spirits, very charismatic. He made a very positive
00:16impression on the English media here at Carrington. He spoke about a range of
00:22topics as you'd expect. He insisted that he was the right man for the job. He's
00:27certain that it is the right time for him to arrive at Manchester United. He
00:31also downplayed the severity maybe of the task in hand. He said it's only the
00:37simple things really that Manchester United need to work upon if they are
00:41going to transform their fortunes around. He downplayed how much of a change it
00:46would be to switch formation, although he did admit that it's not ideal to do so
00:51when the season is already underway. He said that playing with five at the back
00:55or four at the back is fundamentally the same. It's just a little bit of
00:59positioning work which he is confident his new players will be able to do. He
01:04did admit though that maybe he doesn't quite have the personnel that is
01:07required right now. If he's going to implement the 3-4-3 formation that we
01:11saw worked so well for him at Sporting, it will be interesting to see just how
01:17many changes he does make when United face Ipswich Town in the Premier League
01:20on Sunday. Amorim has already hinted that it will be largely the same
01:24personnel that you'd expect from maybe a Ten Hag team, but that it will be used in
01:30a different way with different responsibilities both in and out of
01:33possession. Amorim also spoke about his influence of Jose Mourinho, who he says
01:39is one of the inspirations for all Portuguese coaches, someone who he
01:44worked with during a placement here at Manchester United. He did say, look
01:48Mourinho came here as a European Cup winner. I am not one of those, but there
01:53could be similarities with how defensively robust they both are as
01:56managers. And Amorim also said that he will have some say on transfer dealings.
02:02Of course there was a lot of focus on his role, which is a head coach rather
02:06than first-team manager. Ineos have looked to overhaul their transfer
02:11strategy under Jason Wilcox and Dan Ashworth. They want to buy players who
02:15are suitable for the club rather than for the manager. Right now it remains to
02:19be seen if United have those players to succeed under Amorim, but he says
02:23he will have to have some say, some strong say, on the business that United
02:27do just because he is the head coach and that is part of his remit. He believes
02:31that any new arrivals or exits should be ran past him. He certainly talks the talk.
02:37We'll find out if he walks the walk. United face Ipswich Town in Ruben
02:42Amorim's first match in charge on Sunday. You can follow a match with us live on
02:46Manchester World.
