00:00Use the words little and girl to address me again, and I can't guarantee your safety.
00:03Is Jenna Ortega the Gen Z version of a Karen?
00:0621-year-old Jenna Ortega has dominated the big and small screen thanks to her roles in
00:10Wednesday, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and the super racy horror flick X.
00:14Driving carpool and banging your Pilates instructors to fill the empty voids in your life?
00:19We'll see who gets the last laugh.
00:20But it's not just Jenna's acting that has people talking.
00:23She's gained a reputation for having a bit of an attitude, with one veteran TV producer
00:28publicly calling her toxic and entitled.
00:30So is the hate justified, or is Jenna just standing up for herself?
00:34It first went down in 2023 when a then 20-year-old Ortega sat down with Dax Shepard on his podcast
00:39Armchair Expert.
00:41She admitted that at times, she became almost unprofessional.
00:44I don't think I've ever had to put my foot down on a set in a way that I had to on Wednesday.
00:49Everything that she does, everything that I had to play, did not make sense for her
00:52character at all.
00:53Ortega confessed that she changed some lines in the script during filming, when she felt
00:57the writers had Wednesday doing things that were very out of character, explaining that
01:01her performance was conflicting with the lines in the script.
01:04That's when Steven D. Knight, a longtime TV producer who had not worked with Ortega, shared
01:09his thoughts on Twitter, saying,
01:11"'This kind of statement is beyond entitled and toxic.'
01:13I love her work, but life's too short to deal with people like this in the business."
01:17In a recent interview with her Beetlejuice Beetlejuice co-star Catherine O'Hara, the
01:21journalist asked Ortega her thoughts on other potential sequels, even suggesting she star
01:26in a hypothetical gender-swapped remake of Edward Scissorhands.
01:30Jenna's response?
01:31"'I don't like it when it's like a spin-off.
01:32I don't want to see, like, Jamie Bond.'"
01:34Out of context, her remark seems harsh.
01:37But in the interview, Ortega goes on to say that women should get to lead their own films,
01:41adding,
01:42"'I want to see another badass.'"
01:43Speaking of another badass, Jenna made headlines yet again for appearing controlling in front
01:47of photographers alongside 90s movie legend Winona Ryder at the Venice Film Festival.
01:52In a viral paparazzi clip, paparazzi are shouting at Ryder to remove her sunglasses
01:57as they snap photos of the reclusive 52-year-old.
02:00While initial reports criticized Ortega for denying the paparazzi their money shot, fans
02:13quickly recognized it as a wholesome moment between Jenna and Winona, who portray a daughter
02:17and mother in the movie.
02:19So is Jenna really an entitled Karen, or is she just protective of herself, her craft,
02:38and the people she cares about?
02:39Her career began at age 9, where she booked dozens of commercials and small film roles,
02:44until getting her big break starring in Disney Channel's Stuck in the Middle.
02:47After transitioning to more mature roles, Ortega earned praise for her impressive acting
02:51chops and film knowledge from seasoned directors like Tim Burton, who gave the actress a producer
02:56credit for the next season of Wednesday.
02:58Just like Wednesday Addams, Ortega has been called an impolite role model young girls
03:02need and flips the sweet, people-pleasing young lady stereotype on its head.
03:07Jenna's not trying to make people like her.
03:08Instead, she's just letting her work speak for itself.
