00:00Famous actors don't fart, do they?
00:04They do, in fact.
00:05Want to know who passed the gas?
00:07Did it make it to the big screen?
00:09Keep watching to find out the unfortunate details.
00:12Judd Apatow's films are renowned for their moments of impromptu unscripted comedy.
00:17And for This Is 40, national treasure Paul Rudd utilized his tushy-tickling talents for
00:21an improvised scene which made the movie.
00:23For the moment in question, Rudd's character Pete is having a conversation with his wife
00:27played by Leslie Mann, about whether their marriage lacks passion.
00:31Naturally, this is the perfect moment for Pete to serve up a set of casual rectum rumblers,
00:35all of which were apparently 100 percent real.
00:38Rudd told Female First,
00:39"...I just felt it coming and went with it."
00:41Don't do that!
00:43What am I doing?
00:44Don't fart in the bed!"
00:46He explained that on top of the fart being a cheap comedic tool, it was also the right
00:49choice for his character at that moment, adding,
00:51"...that kind of intimacy is what marriage is about.
00:54You wouldn't fart in front of someone you're dating, but you'd certainly fart in front
00:57of your wife."
00:58It may have been right for the character in the scene, but was it right to do in front
01:01of his clearly horrified co-star?
01:03Certainly, Rudd was able to jokingly acknowledge that anybody with any decency would never
01:08fart in front of someone else in such a manner, to Jewish Journal, and particularly not when
01:11you're shooting a scene in a movie.
01:13Still, he must be proud.
01:15In an interview with Shortlist, Rudd suggested that being able to blow an immaculately timed
01:19backdoor salute on cue was, quote, an ultimate life aim.
01:22Achievement unlocked, pal!
01:24Paul Rudd's spontaneous stinker was good, but it doesn't hold a candle to Benicio Del
01:28Toro's impressive farting feats on the set of The Usual Suspects.
01:31In one of its most iconic scenes, the film's criminals find themselves uncontrollably cracking
01:35up with laughter during a police lineup.
01:37Apparently, they weren't acting.
01:39On the DVD commentary for the film, actor Kevin Pollak confirmed that the laughter was
01:43real, and that guests had galvanized their giggles, saying,
01:46"...Del Toro farted like 12 takes in a row."
01:49As reported by CinemaBlend, the intention for the original scene was for it to be played
01:53straight.
01:54Editor John Ottman left the moment in because it worked so well.
01:57The farts may be inaudible in the final cut, but the camaraderie it caused among the actors
02:01arguably made the scene one of the best of its kind.
02:04On Twitter, screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie even credited Del Toro's criminal colon claps
02:08as having solved a major script issue for him.
02:10The film needed a scene of the suspects bonding, something which he believed, quote, "...stops
02:15the story cold."
02:16Instead, Del Toro's trouser rumbles naturally bonded the characters, because farts are the
02:20funniest thing in the world when someone, like director Bryan Singer, is telling you
02:23to be serious.
02:24McQuarrie wrote in the since-deleted tweet,
02:26"...since then I've held to the belief that sometimes you're good and sometimes someone
02:30farts."
02:32In 2021, Spider-Man No Way Home served up a plethora of fun Spidey surprises to the
02:36joy of comic book fans everywhere.
02:38Zendaya, unfortunately, experienced a Spidey surprise of a different nature.
02:42Her co-star and real-life beau, Tom Holland, apparently farted on her during a scene where
02:46the two did some web-slinging together.
02:48The less-than-heroic admission came courtesy of the British actor, who freely and some
02:52might even say proudly, shared the anecdote on SiriusXM.
02:55While explaining the less-than-glamorous realities of filming the scenes where Peter Parker swings
02:59with MJ, Holland admitted that he once let out a friendly neighborhood spider fart on
03:03his co-star.
03:04He shared,
03:05"...yeah, I farted on Zendaya, unfortunately.
03:08It's tough.
03:09The suit's tight.
03:10The harness squeezes it out."
03:11Clearly, the two have a great relationship, because Zendaya was pleasantly calm about
03:14the experience.
03:15She did explain, however, that it was obvious that he farted because she, quote, "...felt
03:19the rattle on her thigh."
03:20But then, Zendaya seems to have a penchant for such humor.
03:23As a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the star confessed that she and her Doom co-star,
03:27Timothy Chalamet, would break the ice on set with some good old-fashioned fart jokes.
03:31Fear might be a mind-killer, but farts?
03:34Apparently they're good for the noggin.
03:36Within the nightmarish confines of Robert Ecker's period semen dark comedy, The Lighthouse,
03:41one repetitive noise sours the isolating space.
03:43That is, the roaring rips of Willem Dafoe's character's back end.
03:47Naturally, the actor is a legit thespian, and so he conjured his body's own personal
03:51foghorn to deliver authentic blasts of gas when necessary.
03:54"...I'm sick of your smell, I'm sick of it, I'm sick of it."
03:57During an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, Dafoe suggested his vegetarian diet
04:01helped with his delivery.
04:02However, he was humble in taking too much credit for the brown haze of the final noises,
04:06suggesting,
04:07"...for the most part, they were added in post-production."
04:09Speaking to Den of Geek, he further suggested that half of the farts heard on screen were
04:13actually his.
04:14But is that the complete truth?
04:16Describing the film's fart noises as bespoke flatulence, the movie's supervising sound
04:20editor, Damien Volpe, called the characters' anal barks the mystery of The Lighthouse.
04:24He then appeared to dispute Dafoe's claims that they weren't his actual farts.
04:28Instead, he told Vulture,
04:29"...I think I'm the only one who knows where the flatulence comes from."
04:32Whether the film's final farts were those executed by Dafoe is perhaps beside the point.
04:37What's clear from the actor's own anecdotes is that he was most definitely letting rip
04:40on set, whether they kept the final cut of him cutting one or not.
04:47Sadly, not every celebrity that farts on set is worthy of an Academy Award, but they still
04:54make for a great anecdote regardless.
04:56During filming of The Da Vinci Code, co-stars Paul Bettany and Tom Hanks came away with
05:00a great one after a fight scene ended with the unholy sound of a rectal relic.
05:04The incident took place while the two were filming a scene where Bettany had to punch
05:07Hanks in the stomach.
05:09Relaying the story on The Late Late Show, the British star stated that it was very quiet
05:12on set for the stunts and everyone was worried somebody would get hurt.
05:16Apparently, nobody was concerned about what actually happened when America's Most Wholesome
05:20Star farted really, really, really loudly.
05:23As Bettany mused to James Corden, he was unsure how to respond and said,
05:26"...what do you do when the biggest movie star in the world farts?"
05:30As Hanks fondly recalled with great humor on The Graham Norton Show, one appropriate
05:33response might have just been laughter.
05:35He stated proudly,
05:36"...when I hit the floor, I farted."
05:38He added that it's why nobody really asked him to do such scenes in films.
05:41"...now when it comes down to fight scenes, I get cast as the pie eater."
05:45Regrettably, the fart wasn't kept in the movie.
05:48She's quite rightly celebrated as being one of the most beautiful actors in the world,
05:52but back in 2005, Ava Mendes was also apparently renowned for her farts.
05:57The Training Day star, and partner of Ryan Gosling, made her talents be known during
06:01the filming of a short-lived MTV reality show called Trippin.
06:04Cynically described by Pop Matters as being a showcase of, quote, "...Celebuton ecotourism,"
06:09the series was hosted by Cameron Diaz.
06:11Apparently, Mendes wasn't too concerned about emitting what could have been an environmental
06:14disaster's worth of methane when she and Diaz went to war over their gas emissions.
06:19Speaking to Boston.com, Mendes confirmed that while they shared a hotel room and side-by-side
06:23beds, they became competitive over their respective, quote, "...disgusting bodily functions."
06:27She told the outlet,
06:28"...Cameron is a big old belcher, but I can't belch.
06:31One night, I had a heavy dinner, so I combated her belching was something I could do.
06:35It was an Ava Cameron fart belch-off."
06:37The competition was even caught on camera during an episode of the show.
06:40In one scene in particular, Diaz complains to the camera that she can't sleep before
06:44an audible fart can be heard, followed by Mendes' laughter.
06:47Diaz then laughs and says,
06:48"...We can't sleep cause Ava won't stop farting."
06:50Meanwhile, her roommate denies the accusations, calling them, quote, "...such a lie."
06:55Long before Chris Pratt became the internet's least favorite Chris, and he started voicing
06:59every cherished cartoon character of her childhood, there was Andy Dwyer, the actor's beloved
07:03bumbling everyman from Parks and Recreation.
07:06Behind the scenes, Pratt was renowned for being one of the silliest members of the entire
07:09cast.
07:10During the show's run, its blooper reels were consistently stacked full of hilarious outtakes
07:14featuring the actor cracking everyone up on set with his improvisations and behavior.
07:18This included his legendarily awful farts.
07:21In one blooper, for instance, Pratt joined forces with co-star Nick Offerman to perform
07:24what a disgusted Aziz Ansari called,
07:26"...a one-two punch combo of a fart so loud and audible, it ruined a take."
07:30In another, the actor produced such a horrifying noise with such sustained duration and power
07:35that he joked he'd crapped his pants on camera.
07:37Believable.
07:38In 2019, the cast reunited for a PaleyFest presentation celebrating the show, where Aubrey
07:43Plaza didn't hesitate in pointing the finger at the worst on-set farters.
07:47When asked by Offerman which cast member made her favorite noises with his or her body,
07:51the actor pointed her finger sharply at the culprits.
07:54She said,
07:55"...Nick and Pratt used to fart all the time, and it would make Amy Poehler and I really
07:58angry, so I don't appreciate that question."
08:01"...Ugh.
08:02Okay."
08:04Somebody should've complained to the environmental department of the Pawnee Town officials.
08:09From one confined space gaseous hellscape to another, with the delightful story of Will's
08:13apparently horrific honkers on the set of Men in Black.
08:16During an oral history of the film's sugar water scene with Vulture, director Barry Sonnenfeld
08:20recalled that Will had some, quote, "...really nasty farts."
08:22Apparently, one in particular brought the set to a standstill.
08:26As described by the director, Smith and co-star Tommy Lee Jones were in a rig on a green-screen
08:30stage, filming the Midtown Tunnel sequence, wherein their car goes upside down and drives
08:34on the ceiling.
08:35The crew managed to get the rig upside down after about 10 minutes of work and were ready
08:39to shoot when Smith began to apologize and ask that they be immediately removed.
08:43Sonnenfeld explained that Smith had farted so bad in this enclosed space, but that somehow
08:47his co-star played it cool, and was affable about the incident despite the stench.
08:51He added,
08:52"...But man, as soon as we opened it up, Tommy was out of there."
08:55Smith's gastrointestinal issues are renowned within his own family.
08:58During an episode of Red Table Talk, the actor made the worrying revelation that he can go
09:02three days without a bowel movement, prompting some concern from his son, Jaden Smith, who
09:06commented,
09:07"...That is not good.
09:08That's why your farts smell like that.
09:10Yikes.
09:11Where's that memory wiper when you need it?"
09:13For many, Channing Tatum is represented by one core image, the actor using his gyrating
09:17body to spank an entire woodwork studio while grinding to Ginuwine's Pony in Magic Mike.
09:22It's a masterful scene.
09:23Please, give yourself a moment to drench in its memory.
09:26It's also with great apology that we have to dash this image for another.
09:30During the filming of 21 Jump Street, Tatum was apparently a chronic farter on set and
09:34terrorized his co-stars with them.
09:36The putrid accusation came courtesy of Jake Johnson, who was asked by People what one
09:39of his favorite memories was while filming the 2012 movie.
09:42For whatever reason, he suggested that being the subject of Tatum's chronic gastric attacks
09:47was apparently it for him, and proceeded to divulge how his co-star welcomed him on set.
09:51Johnson explained,
09:52While there appears to be no other evidence around that Tatum's bottom is anything less
10:03than delightful, during promotion of 22 Jump Street, one particular video appeared to suggest
10:08Hill complaining of Tatum's bodily functions.
10:10At the beginning of a chat with Pate, the actor joked,
10:13I love when they just turn the fan off and leave us in a hot, small, fart-smelling room.
10:17Not to point fingers, but Tatum looked awfully amused.
