While COP29 deliberates on climate change, Portugal has turned to wildlife to help protect its mountains from devastating wildfires - and their accompanying air pollution.

Our correspondent Ken Browne reports from the fire frontline.

00:00This isn't just a herd of goats, this is a mobile fire protection unit.
00:06They eat up the extra dry grass that is helping to fuel ever more extreme wildfires in the Portuguese mountains.
00:15This is part of a European funded initiative called a Life Project that is doing just that, saving lives here in Portugal.
00:25And goats aren't the only ones helping fight future forest fires, this is a Mirandaça Portuguese cow and they are great grazers too.
00:34They help rid the mountains of all this fuel that is helping these wildfires become more extreme and spread faster.
