00:00String theory says that there could be 10 to the power of 500 parallel worlds in total,
00:07which is a 1 with 500 zeros after it.
00:10If true, it's a number that's greater than the number of atoms in the universe.
00:15So, do you believe they exist?
00:19Or more importantly, have you ever visited a parallel world yourself?
00:27For today's first case, we're headed to Japan, and to an oft-repeated tale of the
00:31man from Torred.
00:33Exact dates tend to differ between retellings of this story, but it's generally said that
00:37sometime in the mid-to-late 1950s, a man presented his passport at a Tokyo airport, expecting
00:43to be let through the gate.
00:44All his documents seemed to be in order, except for one thing.
00:47The country that had issued the passport, Torred, did not exist.
00:51Assuming he was some kind of criminal, the customs officers at the airport allegedly
00:56held the man for questioning.
00:57Bizarrely, when he was asked to point Torred out on a map, he could apparently do so, only
01:03it was labelled as what we know to be Andorra, instead.
01:07According to the man, the unknown country of Torred was a thousand years old, though,
01:11and he was reportedly able to show the officers several official passport stamps as well as
01:15currencies from various other countries where he had seemingly had business in the past,
01:20to further prove his case.
01:22Naturally, the officers did a little more digging, according to most versions of the
01:26story, and called up the company the man claimed to work for.
01:29They discovered that it did exist, but not in anywhere known as Torred.
01:34The hotel at which the man insisted he had a reservation was also called.
01:38And again, it was real, but no reservation was found under the correct name.
01:43The officers were then at a loss.
01:45Everything seemed to be legitimate and in order, except for the fairly significant fact
01:49that Torred, and by extension, the man himself, just did not exist.
01:54Pending further investigation, it's said that the man was then sent to a nearby hotel,
01:59where he was placed under armed guard, with the suspicion being that he may still be a
02:03criminal of some kind.
02:04However, after just one night's stay, in the morning, the man was gone.
02:09And all his documents, too.
02:11Every trace of him had vanished, and he was supposedly never heard from again.
02:15So, what happened?
02:17Unsurprisingly, this tale is seen by some as just a complicated hoax.
02:22Official records of the mystery man don't, after all, appear to exist.
02:26And his story has some similarities to another case of a genuine fraudster, again in Japan,
02:31around that same time.
02:33But still, some believe that he really was a visitor from a parallel universe, who had
02:37accidentally spliced between his world and ours.
02:40Ultimately, his fate remains unknown.
02:44For our second story, we're heading a century further back in time, to news of a case first
02:48published in the UK in 1851.
02:52Reports centered on the small German village of Frankfurt an der Oder, where a man was
02:56reportedly discovered wandering around in a confused haze.
03:00When questioned by the local authorities, he allegedly managed to explain that his name
03:03was Joffar or Joseph Vorin, and that he had no idea where he was.
03:08He claimed that he had come to Germany in search of his brother, but had previously
03:12been shipwrecked in an unknown location.
03:15The man insisted that he was originally from a country called Luxaria, though… a place
03:19that no one else had ever heard of, because it doesn't exist.
03:23Vorin is said to have explained that Luxaria was found in a continent-like region of Earth
03:28called Sacria, but again, no one had heard of such a place.
03:33What's more, Vorin couldn't retrace his trip to that point on a map, and didn't recognise
03:38any of the names of the continents as we know them.
03:41He reportedly continued to reveal more about his home world, though, explaining that the
03:45Earth he knew was divided into five main regions in total, apparently called Sacria, Aflar,
03:52Aslar, Oslar, and Euplar.
03:55He professed to speak fluent Luxarian, too, as well as a second unknown language of Abramian.
04:02Finally, and again according to reports at the time, he described himself as a follower
04:06of Christianity, but of an unknown branch called Ispashian.
04:11It's said that authorities ultimately sent him to Berlin for further questioning, with
04:15some retellings claiming that he escaped on his way there, never to be heard from again.
04:20As with the man from Tora, though, there is little by way of an official record of Vorin's
04:25appearance, and especially of his alleged disappearance at the end of the story.
04:29So could this simply be another hoax?
04:31Or was there really an error in the multiverse once more, before Vorin was sent back to his
04:37own reality?
04:39Unlike with our first two stories, where residents of alternate universes purportedly visit our
04:44own, today's remaining two tales are of individuals from our reality allegedly making an accidental
04:50visit into a foreign dimension.
04:52The first has been widely attributed to an account given by a Dr. Raul Centeno in Peru,
04:58concerning the country's infamously spooky Markowoski Stone Forest.
05:02Centeno claims to have treated a woman who accidentally passed through an interdimensional
05:07doorway that can be found somewhere within this particular piece of the South American
05:12landscape.
05:13Centeno's patient, along with a group of friends, reportedly decided to go for a night
05:17hike through the woods there, when they happened across a small wooden cabin, clearly with
05:23people inside.
05:24So the story goes, the group soon discovered that the people in the cabin were incongruously
05:29dressed in old-fashioned, what's usually described as 17th century, clothing.
05:34It's then said that the hikers claimed to have quickly felt an unusual, out-of-control
05:39desire to join in with the unexpected celebration.
05:42And so the woman, Centeno's patient, attempted to enter the cabin… before her friends changed
05:48their minds and pulled her back.
05:50But not before half of her body had passed through the doorway.
05:54It was allegedly then that the woman discovered that the side of her body that had passed
05:58through the door had become paralysed.
06:01This was predominantly why she sought treatment from Dr. Centeno in the first place, who diagnosed
06:06her with hemiplegia.
06:08But despite the diagnosis, the doctor couldn't decipher a clear cause for this sudden and
06:12inexplicable condition.
06:14Instead, reports are that he believes that the woman's unfortunate fate may have been
06:18the result of a brief visit into an alternate dimension… one lying just beyond that mysterious,
06:25Markawassi doorway.
06:26Finally, one Pedro Oliva Ramirez also reportedly took a wrong turn through another universe,
06:33but this time in Spain in November of 1986.
06:37According to another of the most infamous and widespread interdimensional claims out
06:41there, Ramirez was on his usual route home from work in the city of Seville when he passed
06:46by an odd and previously unknown part of the road… an instantly peculiar six-lane highway
06:52that he definitely didn't recognise.
06:54Along the side of this new road were tall buildings that Ramirez had never seen before,
06:59despite travelling that way on most days.
07:02It gets stranger, though, because Ramirez then reportedly felt a hot and distinct temperature
07:07change in his car and he heard a series of voices allegedly informing him that he had
07:12been transported to a different hemisphere.
07:16Unsure of how to proceed, the story typically continues that Ramirez drove until he came
07:21to an intersection with signs pointing in three directions, taking one of the roads
07:26and believing he was headed back to Seville.
07:28Ramirez was apparently amazed when his car came to a stop, he glanced out of his window,
07:33and found that he was parked right in front of his home, where he had been trying to get
07:37to all along.
07:39It's said that a confused Ramirez then tried to retrace his steps several times, but he
07:43could never find his way back to that six-lane highway.
07:47So how did he get home, and who were the voices that spoke to him through his car?
07:52To this day, it's a mystery.
07:54Importantly, with all four of these cases, there's precious little by way of an official
07:59account or an official investigation.
08:02These tales predominantly exist as urban legends, but some of them have been debated for decades
08:07now, and with no clear solutions.
08:10The multiverse waits for no one, but for now, those are four parallel universe stories to
08:16make you question reality.
08:18What do you think?
08:19Is there anything we missed?
