00:00Could I request a statement, please, from the Cabinet Secretary for Transport regarding
00:04road safety, particularly regarding the A470 at Leibniz?
00:09Many of the people here, I'm sure, have travelled across Banner Brecheiniog down into Brecon
00:16along the A470 and through the tiny village of Leibniz, which has no pedestrian road crossing.
00:25Unfortunately, last week there was a three-car crash at Leibniz, highlighting the ongoing
00:34danger there.
00:36Firefighters actually needed to free a casualty, and local councillors have expressed severe
00:41concern about the daily risks faced by Leibniz residents due to the speed restriction, which
00:48is 50 miles an hour.
00:51So, could I ask the Cabinet Secretary, particularly as it's road safety week this week, to detail
00:59interim safety measures and risk assessments for the A470 at Leibniz?
01:06Diolch yn fawr, Jane Dodds.
01:09The Welsh Government takes road safety very seriously, but also routinely monitors speed
01:16data, along with personal injury collision records from the police, to inform us of
01:21the need for road safety improvements.
01:23It's already been raised in terms of road safety and setting local speed limits this
01:28afternoon, so we are currently updating the guidance on setting local speed limits to
01:36reflect current Welsh Government policy, including the national roll-out of 20-mile-an-hour speed
01:41limit, and to meet the ambitions highlighted in Llywydd y Llywydd, the Wales transport
01:46strategy.
01:47And, when that new guidance is published, we'll review the speed limits across the
01:52trunk road network, including the A470 at Leibniz.
01:57I think we all know that we are all driven through Leibniz, and then to hear of that
02:03collision, again, brings the reality of this in terms of speed limits and enforcement,
02:13of course, which is crucial.
02:15But I would urge your constituents to report any concerns directly to GoSafe, the Wales
02:22casualty reduction partnership, who are responsible for speed limit enforcement.
02:31Y Llywydd, diolch yn fawr.
